An expanded way to play
What good is the greatest sound engine if its functions can't be controlled dynamically and intuitively while playing? Conventional keyboards with velocity and aftertouch offer too few options to achieve this, and their reliance on knobs, hand wheels, pedals, or breath controllers means too much attention is taken away from actually playing. This is exactly where the Expressive E Osmose 61 comes in. Its innovative keyboard design unlocks new ways to control sound with gestures (press, bend, shake, and more) that bring a level of control usually associated with acoustic instruments. Each key has an extended range of motion from its usual resting point, which allows for additional per-note modulation whose range and target parameters can be modified with each patch and sound. Aftertouch sensitivity profiles and response curves can be customised in extraordinary depth, with each of the advanced EganMatrix onboard sounds tailored for use with the unique expressive controls of the Osmose. With its five-octave layout, the instrument is also better suited to two-handed playing than the 49-key version.

3D keyboard with five octaves
The semi-weighted keys of the unique Osmose keybed are equipped with additional sensors that convert horizontal movements and the position of the finger on the key surface into control signals. This allows for playing techniques such as shake, strum, and pressure glide that are otherwise not possible on conventional keyboards. In turn, pitch bend and dynamic sound changes can be generated simultaneously with the notes being played. Aftertouch, pressure, and pitch bend can even be applied polyphonically. The 24-voice sound engine is a version of Haken Audio's EaganMatrix specially adapted for the Osmose. It can generate FM, virtual-analogue, and physical modelling sounds, with parameters freely assignable to the keyboard's various sensors. This allows performers to transport articulation and nuance with remarkable precision.

Elevated expression
Expressive E's Osmose 61 is aimed at experienced keyboardists who have reached the limits of their existing instrument. Supported by its advanced sound engine, the 3D keyboard opens up completely new modes of musical expression. Its dynamically playable tones can be used equally well for electronic music, Pop, Jazz, Fusion, or Hip-Hop. Live on stage, keyboardists can perform unusually expressive solos; in the studio, synthesizer parts can be worked on in unprecedented detail. Despite the additional octave, the Osmose 61 weighs only around 1kg more than its predecessor and remains easy to transport. At the same time, the expanded keyboard better accommodates the playing styles associated with instruments such as electric pianos and polyphonic synthesizers. The Osmose can also be used with software instruments, including the Soliste series from Expressive E, releasing their full musical potential.

EaganMatrix
The EaganMatrix, a modular digital synthesizer developed by Haken Audio, draws inspiration from classic analogue matrix synths like the ARP 2500 and EMS Synthi 100. Unlike those instruments, however, EaganMatrix replaces fixed pin connections with live formulas – allowing each connection in the matrix to carry a dynamic equation, letting a single gesture on the keybed reshape multiple parameters simultaneously rather than triggering one fixed response. The engine's module set includes summation oscillators, multimode filters, and time‑delay networks that also serve as the basis for waveguide physical modelling; biquad filter banks further extend its capabilities into granular and additive synthesis. Deeper editing is handled in the Haken Editor, where the full matrix – sources, destinations, and formulas alike – is exposed beyond the front panel's reach.
