About Ernie Ball

The Ernie Ball company was named after its founder and has its headquarters in San Luis Opisbo, California. Being a guitarist himself, Ernie Ball knew their needs very well. A major problem for him in the 1950s and 1960s was the lack of high-quality guitar and bass strings. In 1962, Ernie Ball invented the “Slinky”, a very flexible and therefore much more comfortable string, which also sounded better and was more durable. He specifically brought individual string gauges onto the market for a young clientele and touring musicians. The company’s success was unstoppable, and today Ernie Ball is the world's largest manufacturer of guitar and bass strings. De enige snaren die ik nog gebruik

Voordat ik gebruik maakte van Ernie Ball snaren, gebruikte ik een ander merk omdat deze vaak werden aangeraden.

Ik merkte alleen wel dat mijn oude snaren vaak knapten na zwaar gebruik (dit waren .10 snaren). Het leek me hierna leuk om eens .09 snaren te gebruiken, gewoon om te zien of het verschil zo groot is.

Persoonlijk vond ik deze snaren veel beter klinken dan mijn oude vertrouwde set die ik gewend was (wat ook door de dikte kan komen), maar verder dan dit houden de snaren het veel beter vol dan ik gewend was! Na vele solo's en rhythm spel zijn ze nog steeds helder en wel.

Verder waren ze wel wat duurder tegenover mijn oude merk ;
Een setje van Ernie Ball kost me ongeveer 2 keer zoveel.

Maar ik vind het het meer dan waard, door hun uitstekende integriteit en klank!

Kortom, ik ben erg tevreden met de snaren van Ernie Ball en zal ze in de toekomst blijven kopen!

Prima setje voor het geld

De snaren zijn erg goedkoop en breken niet snel, dat vind ik erg fijn. het nadeel met ernie balls vind ik dat ze niet heel lang meegaan. meestal na 4 weken klinken ze al weer wat dof. als je vaak snaren kan wisselen is dit geen probleem. Ik vind het altijd alleen vervelend met een floyd rose brug.

Heb ik al veel vaker gehad en hier ook al 'gerecenseerd'. Snaren zijn vooral een kwestie van merktrouw - als iets goed klinkt, waarom zou je het willen veranderen - en wellicht ook gevoed door het immer manifeste ego van de gemiddelde gitarist. Jaja...
Als (voormalig) wetenschapper ben ik van mening dat je snaren uitsluitend goed en onafhankelijk kunt testen (en dus vergelijken) met andere sets en onder exact dezelfde omstandigheden. Dat geldt ook voor de gitaren en de bespelers. Iemand die veel 'zuur-zweet' met zijn handen, doet er een week mee. Ik vervang ze meestal binnen één jaar, tenzij ik serieus ga opnemen!

Kortom. Prima, prijs/kwaliteit.

Opmerking. De snarenset zit weliswaar in een afgesloten verpakking, maar ik heb helaas moeten constateren dat er 'roestvorming en bramen' op de snaren te zien zijn als de set enkele jaren blijft liggen (= op een schone en droge plek!). Nota bene in de gesloten, gesealde, verpakking.... Met name de hogere snaren. Dat voelt niet fijn en kán de frets beschadigen.

Jarenlang mijn favoriet

Zoals de titel beschrijft; Jarenlang mijn favoriet. Inmiddels heb ik veel meer gitaren en laat ik de snaardikte meer afhangen van op welke gitaar deze komt. Ook wat vrijer qua keuze van snarenmerk daardoor geworden. Momenteel vaak Dean Markley en recent Harley Benton maar van die laatste heb ik nog geen idee.
