Authentic sixties sound

Epiphone 1962 ES-335 Reissue Sixties Ch

The Epiphone 1962 ES-335 Reissue Sixties Cherry is a faithful reproduction of a legendary guitar that helped define the sound of modern music: Developed in collaboration with Gibson Custom, this model is based on the 1962 ES-335 - a version not currently offered as a reissue by Gibson itself. Classic design elements like rounded cutaways, small block inlays, and a slim neck profile capture the unmistakable sixties vibe, while the combination of a laminated maple/poplar body, solid maple centre block, and high-quality components embody the ideal blend of vintage tone and modern playability. Driving its signature tone are two hand-wired Gibson Custombucker pickups, delivering that classic PAF tone with rich clarity, warmth, and an exceptional dynamic response.

Playability meets vintage tone

The Epiphone 1962 ES-335 Reissue Sixties Cherry offers everything expected from a premium semi-hollow guitar. Its solid maple centre block provides excellent sustain and projection while keeping feedback in check, and the one-piece mahogany neck features a Slim Taper C-profile that sits comfortably in the player's fretting hand and lets them move around the fingerboard effortlessly without needing to worry about fatigue. The guitar's rosewood fingerboard - with medium-jumbo frets and rolled edges - additionally provides a comfortably worn-in feel straight away. The classic combination of an ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic bridge and lightweight aluminium stopbar tailpiece ensures rock-solid tuning stability and excellent resonance, while the traditional control layout with dual volume and tone knobs, CTS pots, and premium paper-in-oil capacitors lets players easily dial in whatever vintage tone they desire.

Built for vintage enthusiasts and professionals

The Epiphone 1962 ES-335 Reissue Sixties Cherry is tailor made for players who crave that authentic vintage vibe without sacrificing reliability. Whether in the studio, on stage, or at home, it's a perfect fit for both seasoned professionals and passionate vintage fans. With its classic Sixties Cherry finish, premium-grade machine heads, Graph Tech nut, and a high-quality vintage-style case, this reissue represents a compelling alternative to the significantly more expensive Gibson counterpart - all the more so since it comes equipped with the same Gibson Custom Shop pickups found in Gibson's top-tier Custom models (one of the key factors behind its higher price point, but also the reason for its top-notch sound quality).

About Epiphone

Today, Epiphone is known only as the Asian budget offshoot of Gibson. Yet both companies were once independent, equal, and also bitter rivals. The roots of Epiphone go back to the 1870s and to Anastasios Stathopoulo, a Greek instrument maker, who emigrated to America in 1903 with his son Epaminondas (“Epi” for short). Epi changed the name of the firm to the "Epiphone Banjo Company" after taking over the family business in 1928. During this year, Epiphone also began to manufacture guitars, which rapidly came to dominate their sales. In 1957, Epiphone was taken over by C.M.I., which already included Gibson, but continued as a separate brand until 1970, when manufacturing was outsourced to Asia. Well-known Epiphone models include the Casino, played by the Beatles, and the Sheraton, John Lee Hooker's instrument of choice.

Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom ES-335 1962 – Personal Evaluation
H.E.M.D. 10.05.2025
I recently tried the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom ES-335 1962 and was immediately impressed by its stunning looks and excellent build quality. The finish and attention to detail are truly top-notch for this price range, and the guitar feels solid and well-made.

Sonically, the ES-335 delivers the classic semi-hollow tones you’d expect. On my Supro amp, I found the neck and neck+bridge positions a little too dark for my taste, though the overall sound is rich and full. The guitar has a lot of character and would be a great fit for blues, jazz, and classic rock.

However, I struggled with the ergonomics. The large body is less comfortable for me, especially when sitting, and I found it difficult to keep the guitar stable on my lap. Additionally, I’ve realized—after trying this and several Les Pauls—that Gibson/Epiphone neck profiles just don’t suit my hands or playing style.

In summary:
This ES-335 is a wonderful instrument in terms of looks, build, and sound, but it’s not the right fit for me personally due to ergonomic issues and neck feel. I’m glad I gave it a fair try, but I’ll be looking for something that suits me better.

Great Quality Guitar for the Price
Mark W. Praha 18.06.2025
After seeing the somewhat less that positive reviews I thought I should share my experience. I had a friend with a Gibson ES335 many years ago and would play it whenever we were jamming and loved the sound and the feel of it. .

This guitar comes very close to the sound of the Gibson ES 335 ( this is my opinion and not based on any detailed comparison).

I didi pay for the "set-up" that Thomann does (about 50 Euro) and it was well worth it. Guitar out of the box was perfect. The sound is great and for the price this has to be one of the best quality /price options out there. Having bought an Epiphone "inspired by Gibson " a couple years ago, this guitar is major step up for Epiphone.

Bewertung für Epiphone 1962 ES-335 Reissue (Sixties Cherry)
Urs Kurs 11.05.2025
