Lightning-fast with great connectivity

Users can control their LEDs by connecting the Enttec DMX USB Pro Interface to their computer via USB cable and outputting the lighting control signal from the interface's DMX output jack to the spotlights using a suitable DMX cable. Next-level compatibility

Na een half jaar gewerkt te hebben met de Open DMX interface van Enttec begon ik tegen bepaalde beperkingen aan te lopen. De Open DMX interface heeft geen eigen processor, maar is volledig afhankelijk van de rekenkracht van de host waar je de interface bij gebruikt. Dit is prima bij kleinere lichtshows, maar eenmaal boven de 300 kanalen en 10+ gelijktijdige chases begint de belasting op de CPU van de host wat groter te worden en kan dit zorgen voor wat haperingen in het DMX netwerk.

De DMX Pro interface heeft een eigen processor en heeft dit probleem niet. De hostcomputer geeft simpelweg commando?s door in een snelle en gemakkelijke taal en de interface zet deze om naar DMX signalen. Dit zorgt er voor dat jouw DMX signalen altijd hapervrij aankomen bij de apparaten.

De DMX ingang op de interface is erg handig als je de PC bepaalde handelingen wilt laten uitvoeren bij bepaalde handelingen; een soort remote control. Ook kun je op deze manier een fysieke DMX lichttafel gebruiken om de DMX software op de PC te besturen.

De interface is ook volledig compatibel met het nieuwere RDM protocol, waardoor een betere controle over de lichtapparatuur behaald kan worden (indien de lampen ook dit protocol ondersteunen). Daarnaast zijn de DMX aansluitingen volledig optisch geïsoleerd van het USB gedeelte, waardoor de computer niet beschadigd indien er een te hoge spanning op de DMX lijn komt te staan (in geval van een foutieve lamp bijvoorbeeld).

Al met al een enorme aanrader en mocht je twijfelen tussen de Open DMX en de DMX Pro zou ik zeker voor de Pro gaan!

Erg handig

Hele fijne dmx interface. Werkt met veel gratis software, zoals LXconsole maar ook met MaxMSP. Ik gebruik het voornamelijk met D::Light, van Nicolas Bats. Dat is erg goed begrijpbare software. De uitgang is hard gesoldeerd aan de ingang, dus met een dmx 5p female naar xlr 3p female heb je een makkelijke tweede uitgang voor 3 polige apparatuur. Het groene lampje knippert wanneer je connectie hebt. De huidige reeks is een stuk lichter dan de vroegere. Dus dat scheelt een hoop als je op reis gaat.

Background of me - no technical knowledge, and I hired a technician who was learning on the job with me

Outcome - pure bliss! - this product has given us so much flexibility when touring to all our different theatre venues. We hook it up with QLab 4 (which it is compatible with - others are not) and it has been great! Not had a single issue yet - A great investment that we can use time and time again for a load of venues and we don't need to take with us a board anymore we just plug it into our MacBook and away we go. Really user-friendly as it doesn't overcomplicate what it needs to do! I believe it covers up to one universe so if you need more get the MK2 possibly but for us this did everything we needed.

Better than expected

I use QLC plus for lighting control on a basic desktop machine with minimal Ubuntu installed. I had problems with flickering lights with Enttec open interfaces and decided to upgrade to this. It solved my problems, and contrary to the instructions no additional drivers had to be installed in the Ubuntu machine. I also ran it without problem on a Mac with an M1 processor.

The only issues I had were with the manufacturers instructions. To check or update the firmware and, if necessary reset it, you need additional software, which it turns out has to be EMU light control software. There is a free version of this, but finding it is not straightforward. The manufacturer does have good support, though, and did provide a link to me. You may wish to get over this hurdle before it arrives.
