A modern take on a classic

Inspired by the legendary CE-1 from the 1970s, EarthQuaker Devices has created the Tri-Voice Chorus – a pedal that combines vintage character with modern functionality. While paying homage to its vintage predecessor, the pedal features an updated, user-friendly interface and a wide selection of modes that means guitarists can finally wave goodbye to endless menu diving. With three core sound types – Chorus/Vibrato, Chorus/Flanger, and Rotary Chorus – it delivers a broad range of modulation effects, from subtle shimmer to bold, sweeping textures. Its smart, intuitive layout allows for easy operation right out of the box. It also allows up to six presets to be stored and offers expression pedal control over any parameter for hands-on flexibility.

Ready to perform

The EarthQuaker Devices Aurelius Tri-Voice Chorus offers two operating modes: Live Mode and Preset Mode. A central button with an LED indicator switches between them. In Live Mode, the pedal responds directly to the control knobs, while in Preset Mode, the controls are disabled and one of six saved sounds can be recalled instantly. A hold function on the bypass switch also enables mode switching, making two different sounds easily accessible during a performance. An expression pedal input on the side allows real-time control of either Width, Rate, or Balance. This setup ensures maximum flexibility, allowing for quick changes between a wide range of sounds in any performance setting.

Chorus, Flanger, Vibrato, and Rotary

With a three-way toggle switch, the Aurelius offers access to Rotary, Flanger, and Vibrato modes, delivering a broad spectrum of modulation sounds alongside classic chorus tones. In V mode, it provides a traditional chorus-type effect that leans towards vibrato, with a triangle LFO modulating a short delay line. By adjusting the wet/dry mix, the effect can shift gradually toward a pure vibrato. C Mode is a blend of chorus and flanger. It has more warmth and slower rates than Mode V and uses a sine wave LFO to modulate the delay line. The Width control plays a major role in this mode and determines which type of modulation is more prominent. The R mode replicates a rotary speaker effect, inspired by the classic Leslie, bringing that distinctive rotating speaker tone into pedal form. The effect combines both amplitude and frequency modulation for a Doppler effect. Each mode captures the feel of analogue effects, appealing to both fans of vintage sounds and musicians interested in exploring more experimental textures.

About EarthQuaker Devices

EarthQuaker Devices was founded in 2004 by the musician Jamie Stillman, who had previously gathered years of experience in the world of music and sounds as the manager of a record label for metal, punk, and shoegaze bands. Today, his innovative pedal designs are among the most in-demand and desirable devices in the boutique segment, attracting interest from a huge community of musicians. Stillman is now in charge of a sizeable team of developers and technicians, who are continuously working from their base in Akron, Ohio to expand their catalogue of hand-made effects pedals. EarthQuaker Devices are used by renowned artists like Paul Simon, Coldplay, Tom Bukovac, Idles, and The Black Keys.

Intelligent layout

The EarthQuaker Aurelius is a modulation pedal packed with a wide variety of sounds, delivering impressive performance not just with guitars, but also with bass and synthesizers. It captures the classic character of the CE-1 while adding modern features, a user-friendly control layout, and a compact design that conserves space on the pedalboard. With its range of modulation options and flexible controls, the Aurelius is well suited for both live and studio use, making it easy to switch between two presets on the fly. The Aurelius runs on 9V DC at 75mA and works with all common pedalboard power supplies.
