I use this set on a 6 string bass as middle strings (2nd / 3rd / 4th / 5th) and tuned 1 step down.
Right after opening the package the strings are good and sound fresh of course. Good definition overall but it could be a bit better. Maybe because it's a non tapered so it's more difficult to intonate.
The main problem is that the strings lose its brightness very very quick. After 2 weeks of constant playing the strings are already without sustain and spark. They sound really "dead".
But, if you're looking to downtune your bass, either you have to buy it custom (Very expensive) or you'll end up with daddarios. I've tried other brands from the shelf and they suck or they don't have thick gauges available.
The good thing is that they come in a protective bag, against corrosion, so it doesn't matter if they are 1 month or 2 years old after you bought, they will be fresh when you install them.
So overall they're good but could be much better. Maybe with a hybrid alloy, allowing a better flexibility, sustain, intonation and durability. Also it would be great if they were tapered.
They make the job and keep the tuning but if you're playing professionally or constantly, prepare to change them every 2 weeks!
