The Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD is a compact 2-in/4-out USB audio interface that can be operated under Windows and macOS, and offers excellent value for money. As its name indicates, it comes with high-resolution converters that can operate at sample rates of up to 24-bit/192kHz. The two input channels are equipped with high-quality microphone preamplifiers developed by the well-established British manufacturer Midas and achieve both detailed and natural recordings. Heel veel voor weinig geld

Behringer heeft in het professionele circuit niet zo'n goede naam. Maar langzamerhand komen ook professionals daarop terug. Er wordt momenteel zeer goede kwaliteit geleverd voor belachelijk lage prijzen.
Zo ook deze U-phoria UMC204HD. Ik daag iedereen uit om van welk merk dan ook iets te vinden dat desnoods twee keer zo veel kost en hetzelfde biedt:
- 2 Uitstekende Midas microfoon voorversterkers
- Ingangen schakelbaar tussen Mic/Line en Instr met een PAD voor extra verzwakking
- Signal LED en clipping LED
- 6 uitgangen (Jack en tulp!) waarvan 4 tegelijk te gebruiken en met A/B monitor switch de andere 2
- Insert op beide kanalen
- MIDI interface
- Direct monitoring - Stereo en Mono, met mixmogelijkheid
- Zeer(!) lage latency
- Uitstekende geluidskwaliteit
- Zeer degelijke bouwkwaliteit
En dan de prijs!
Hoe ze het doen weet ik niet, maar Behringer doet hier iets heel erg goed!!

Beste prijs-kwaliteit

Beter waar voor je geld op het gebied van een XLR interface lijkt niet te bestaan. Goed geluid met weinig kleuring. Weinig ruis (minder dan de grotere 404HD want minder interferentie). En meer dan genoeg poorten en knoppen.

Het enige minpuntje is dat het dynamisch bereik niet de beste is, maar het is voldoende (pak en beet 100 dB, ipv de "standaard" 110 dB, zoals geadverteerd). Verder doet het niet onder aan interfaces die meer dan het dubbele kosten.

Uitstekende audio/midi interface

Zeer gemakkelijke installatie: driver downloaden en installeren, interface aansluiten en klaar is kees. Midi out van mijn Keyb Duo Mk3 clonewheel naar de midi in van de interface. Usb-aansluiting op mijn laptop en ik kan een van beide orgelmanualen gebruiken om vst's te spelen, voornamelijk piano, strings en rhodes. Geen merkbare latency, en zeer goede audiokwaliteit. Voor een nog betere audiokwaliteit ben je al gauw vele honderden euro's kwijt en deze klinkt werkelijk uitstekend. Dat Midas verantwoordelijk is voor de voorversterker is daar wellicht niet vreemd aan.

Stevige kleine box met veel features

Ik gebruik deze interface in mijn backing-track setup voor live spelen, met zijn vier outputs. Er gaat 1 stereo output weg met backing tracks, 1 mono met klik en vaak ook nog 1 mono met LTC signaal voor het aansturen van lichttafels met tijdcode. De interface vereist geen installatie (op Mac) en werkt direct in Logic. Opnemen heb ik weliswaar nog niet geprobeerd, maar afspelen en het routen van alle signalen naar de speakers werkt goed. Audiokwaliteit is zover ik kan horen prima. De box zelf is van stevig materiaal gemaakt dus zal niet zomaar indeuken of kapot kunnen gaan, wat voor mij wel erg prettig is gezien ie mee gaat op 'tour'.
