An immensely effective sound tool

The Behringer Sonic Exciter SX3040 V2 is a powerful psychoacoustic processor designed to enhance the presence and clarity of any signal without noticeably increasing its level. It achieves this through intelligent, programme-dependent blending of overtones, while also integrating specially tuned compression techniques. The bass range gains warmth and fullness through compression, while the mid and high frequencies are refined by an advanced overtone generator, adding brilliance and definition. As with many Behringer products, the SX3040 V2 boasts a truly outstanding price-to-performance ratio, offering professional-grade sound enhancement at a fraction of the cost of comparable units.

Compressor and exciter

An exciter is typically used to process a summed signal – such as a subgroup, mix, or even the master bus – and in this context, the stereo design of the Behringer Sonic Exciter SX3040 V2 makes perfect sense – as do its balanced connectors, conveniently available in both jack and XLR formats. The bass processor compresses frequencies below the point set with the Tune control, while Drive adjusts the intensity of the effect and Mix determines its presence in the output. This compression subtly increases the bass level, adding sustain and giving the low end a noticeably fuller, more powerful character. Meanwhile, the Sonic Exciter enhances the signal by adding harmonics according to the Tune and Harmonics settings, with the Mix control again determining the overall blend; for added flexibility, processing can be switched on or off per channel using the dedicated In/Out switches, ensuring precise control in any production setup.

About Behringer

The company, which was founded in Germany by Uli Behringer and now manufactures its products in China, has been known for affordable and great-value equipment since its very first product, the Studio Exciter F. An array of mixing consoles (such as the Eurodesk MX8000), signal processors, and later sound amplification and monitoring equipment, has made it possible for countless musicians to fit out their home studios, practice rooms, and mobile PAs within budget limits that were previously unthinkable. The acquisition of other companies, including Midas, Klark Teknik, and TC Electronic, meant that new product groups were added - and also resulted in the technical expertise of these companies being incorporated into product development.

Fresh sound for stage and studio

Even in an age where flat, muted recordings are less common, the Behringer Sonic Exciter SX3040 V2 proves its versatility, enhancing perceived loudness and presence whenever there's no room for complex EQ or compressor setups. Easy to use and unmatched in terms of value for money, it's perfect for home studios or budget-conscious sound reinforcement. Its capabilities also extend to more specialised applications, such as restoring the clarity and brightness of old tape or compact cassette recordings, making it a surprisingly flexible tool for a wide range of audio tasks.
