Additional Features compatible with iPad
Touch controller with tablet connectivity
The Avid S1 is a fully featured eight-channel DAW controller that, when paired with an iPad or Android tablet and the Avid Control app, becomes a flexible control hub for both audio and video workflows. Its large display, working in concert with the tablet's touch-screen, enables a smooth, fluid working style where traditional mouse and keyboard use becomes secondary. Thanks to Eucon compatibility, it integrates seamlessly with Avid Pro Tools and Avid Media Composer, while also supporting a wide range of third-party software such as Logic Pro X, Cubase, Digital Performer, and Premiere Pro. In addition, support for the widely used HUI and Mackie Control protocols ensures broad compatibility across professional production environments.
Convenient navigation
Key features of the Avid S1 include high-resolution 100mm motorised faders and touch-sensitive push encoders on each channel. Track assignment is handled intuitively through touch selection on a tablet, making it especially efficient in large sessions where instruments can be organised into banks. This allows entire groups such as drums, guitars or backing vocals to be quickly mapped to the faders without complex navigation. The push encoders provide direct access to essential channel controls like panning and send levels, while also enabling deeper parameter control when used in combination, including insert effects and third-party plugins. Many core functions remain accessible even when the S1 is used independently without a tablet.
The feeling of a mixing console on a computer
The Avid S1 delivers the feel of a professional studio console, whether used for music mixing or for video and post-production work. This concept is reinforced by the combination of a physical workflow and deep software integration, creating a smooth and responsive operating experience. The device excels at automation tasks in particular, where its well-designed layout and direct access to key parameters and automation modes allow for precise control. Connectivity is handled via Ethernet, with an Ethernet-to-Thunderbolt adapter sold separately, or through a local network using a router. When paired with an iPad or Android tablet, operation requires a Wi-Fi connection, while power is supplied through a dedicated USB port on the unit.
About Avid
Avid is one of the world's leading manufacturers of audio and video software as well as the related hardware. The first core product from the company, which was founded in the USA in 1987, was the Avid Media Composer, which, as software for non-linear video editing, was the first to digitalise film material and remains one of the industry standards to this day. Since the takeover of Digidesign in 1995, the DAW software Pro Tools, which is in wide use particularly in the USA, has also been part of the portfolio of the steadily growing group. As time went on, Avid took also over the further development of the products made by M-Audio, Pinnacle Systems, and Sibelius Software, among others.
Flexibly expandable
With its slim design, the Avid S1 provides a compact yet flexible solution for DAW control, working comfortably as a standalone unit in almost any workspace. It can also be expanded for larger studio environments, supporting setups of up to four S1 units for a total of 32 channels. An optional Avid Dock can be added to this setup, acting as a central control hub for overall DAW operation, while the user's tablet serves as the master interface. Additional tablets can be paired with individual S1 units as needed, where they function in metering mode with a simpler touch-based workflow.
