The Audix DP7 is a complete seven-microphone drum kit package for stage and studio use, manufactured in the USA and built around the standard five-piece-plus-overheads configuration. Five dynamic microphones, each featuring Audix's VLM diaphragm, handle close-miking of the shells – kick drum, snare, two rack toms, and floor tom – delivering a clear, detailed picture of fast transients, even at high SPLs. The pair of small-diaphragm ADX51 condenser microphones are designed for use as overheads, capturing the high-end shimmer of the cymbals and "glueing together" the drumkit as a whole. The set neatly packs into its sturdy aluminium road case alongside a full complement of mounting hardware: four DVICE rim mounts, three DCLIP clips, one MC1 clip, and two WS81C windscreens – everything needed to mic a standard kit straight from the case.

Aggressive yet balanced

The D6 on kick delivers low-end punch alongside upper-range attack, its heavily contoured response doing most of the character work without EQ. The D2 and D4's tailored dynamics naturally handle rack and floor toms respectively, and are both compact enough to be positioned safely and with precision using the included DVICE rim mounts. On snare, the i5 takes a fuller, more classic approach – less aggressive than a mid-forward dynamic such as an SM57, with more body in the low end. The pair of ADX51 overheads create the overall stereo image, adding space and upper-end detail to the otherwise tightly focused dynamic mics – pulling the individual close-mic channels into a coherent, room-aware picture of the full kit.

On their own or in concert
