The smart interface for Ape Labs lights
The Ape Labs Connect is an essential piece of equipment for managing larger numbers of Ape Labs lights: For users who want to control their setup via the smartphone app, a DMX connection, or a KNX smart home device, the Connect is the way to do it. The versatility doesn't end there, of course: The compact interface can organise Ape Labs lights in up to four seperate groups, so that locations large and small can be illuminated with the many modular options available as part of the Ape Labs ecosystem. Further adding to this flexibility is the fact that the Connect has a rechargeable battery, entirely in keeping with the universally mobile Ape Labs concept. Like all the light fittings themselves, the Connect is available in anthracite grey or cream white.
Connections without cables
Measuring just 12.5cm square, the Ape Labs Connect fits in the palm of one hand, and yet its lightweight aluminium and steel construction feels reassuringly robust. The package includes the system's dual antennas and the mains power supply; when the battery is fully charged a runtime of up to 50 hours is realistic. The Connect is an interface, not a control device per se, and as such the connections and controls are very simple: Three-pin XLR inputs and outputs handle DMX signals, with the two 2.4GHz antennas running the proprietary Ape Labs wireless DMX signal to the lights themselves. Because each light then functions as a signal repeater in a secure semi-mesh network, an end-to-end range of up to 1200m is possible. A Bluetooth connection between the Connect and a smartphone also enables very intuitive control of up to four groups via the Ape Labs app.
Instant impact
Home users and lighting technicians alike can use the Ape Labs Connect to install pro-grade light designs that're completely cable-free. Even for a private garden party, the versatility of the lights themselves (all made in Germany, by the way) is incredible: The autonomous, lightweight spots in various sizes can be placed anywhere, with their powerful RGBWW LEDS and the many accessories ensuring a great range of uses. For instant impact, the integrated music mode uses the devices' internal microphones to react dynamically to the beat, which can also be synchronised via the Connect as a master mic. Equally, the system is customisable and scalable, because every Ape Labs light can be addressed individually. Event planners and owners of bars and stores will find that the entirely wireless concept doesn't just save time, but also gives their lighting installations a very clean look.
About Ape Labs
Ape Labs is based in Eisingen, Germany, and designs and develops battery-operated LED spotlights. The company was founded in 2007 by managing director Julius Shrenk, who has spent his whole life working with stage technologies, so he knows the requirements of his customers precisely. Ape Labs are specialists in professional spotlights with a creative edge and design, and the company's focus is always on high-quality and affordable lighting products. The young team's portfolio offers a wide range of professional standard LED spotlights, among other solutions, but also caters for the consumer market. Ape Labs lighting products, first presented at Prolight & Sound in 2009, were unanimously hailed by the press as being "among the most innovative of recent times". Since 2015, all Ape Labs products have also been manufactured in Germany.
Go live with Connect
With the Ape Labs Connect, absolutely anyone can quickly blend, save, and apply their favourite colour combinations. DJs and party hosts will use the app to create unique programs with variable fade and hold settings. Commercial users like restaurant managers and event planners can save entire lighting scenarios for the daytime, the dinner rush, and the afterparty. As their ambitions grow, the system can grow with them: As a wireless DMX interface, the Connect integrates Ape Labs spotlights seamlessly into existing setups, either directly at FOH or in combination with standard DMX desks. The wireless signal is secured via a proprietary, encrypted network protocol, while the DMX XLR outputs ensure that third‑party fixtures can be integrated via conventional cabling. Multiple Connects can also be used together – as a wireless bridge between the main desk and the lighting rig, or in larger installations supporting up to four separate DMX universes. For KNX smart‑home connectivity, a KNX‑DMX adapter is required; the Connect is compatible with all widely used KNX systems.
