The Yamaha P-225 may be an entry-level model, but it features the sound of the top-of-the-line Yamaha CFX concert grand, with shimmering highs and powerful lows. Its newly developed keybed makes it even more compact and lightweight than its predecessor, while maintaining a responsive, premium playing feel. It's the perfect solution when space is limited or when a portable alternative to an acoustic piano or larger digital piano is needed – for lessons, gigs, or playing with friends. With its straightforward controls, a selection of high-quality sounds, and a powerful integrated speaker system featuring Sound Boost, the P-225 is ready to play anywhere. Built-in rhythms, a metronome, a recording function, and Bluetooth audio streaming provide additional tools to support both learning and creativity.
The P-225 is equipped with Yamaha's new GHC keyboard (Graded Hammer Compact), which features heavier weighting in the lower keys and lighter weighting in the upper keys, delivering a playing experience that closely resembles an acoustic piano. This makes it an excellent choice for beginners looking to transition to a full hammer-action piano in the future. With 192-note polyphony and 24 high-quality voices, the P-225 offers impressive sonic versatility. Its primary piano sound is sampled from the renowned Yamaha CFX concert grand, enhanced with key-off samples and Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM Lite) to create a rich, realistic, and highly expressive playing experience. For added versatility, sounds can be combined in layer mode – for example, blending piano with strings for emotional, expressive ballads. Thanks to its two integrated headphone jacks, the P-225 supports silent practice for two people. A tablet or computer can be hooked up using the keyboard's USB-to-host connection. Rounding off the package is the sustain pedal, which is included as standard, with the option of also connecting a 3-pedal unit.
The Yamaha P-225 is designed to suit both ambitious beginners and experienced players alike. Its keyboard feels light and responsive while still accurately conveying the weight and response of a hammer-action mechanism. Compact and lightweight at just 11.5kg, the P-225 is easy to transport whenever it's needed. For a more permanent setup, it pairs seamlessly with the optional L-200 stand and the LP-1 three-pedal unit, which provides authentic sustain, sostenuto, and soft pedal functionality – just like a traditional acoustic piano. With its intuitive Duo mode, the keyboard splits into two identical zones, allowing student and teacher – or duet partners – to play side by side using the same piano sound: Perfect for lessons, practice, and shared musical moments.
For decades, Yamaha has been one of the world's best-known manufacturers of musical instruments and audio technology. The Japanese company's long history began at the end of the 19th century with the harmonium. The product range has constantly expanded since then, which has made Yamaha one of the few manufacturers today to offer almost the entire range of existing musical instruments: From upright and grand pianos to guitars, wind instruments, and bowed string instruments and from drums and percussion to electronic keyboards and synthesizers. Yamaha is also a major force in the field of audio engineering as a manufacturer of mixing consoles, amplifiers, PA systems, and more. Yamaha's guiding principle is to combine traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology.
The Yamaha P-225 includes a convenient music rest that slots easily onto the top panel. It holds not only sheet music and books but also a smartphone or tablet, which can be connected to the keyboard via USB/MIDI or the optional Yamaha UD-BT01 Bluetooth MIDI adapter (iOS only). Yamaha’s free "Smart Pianist" app includes sheet music for 303 songs and also unlocks a variety of powerful features. Songs can be played back via MIDI on the keyboard, making it easy to listen, play along, and learn at one's own pace. The app also provides seamless remote control of the P-225's functions, offering a more intuitive and flexible playing experience.
