The standout feature of the Varytec Hero Spot 90 is its outstanding performance given the price at which it is available, since a 90W LED is an extremely rare find among spots in this price range. Designed for small and medium-sized locations, this moving head is part of the Hero Spot series, which is available with LEDs of various power ratings in black and white housings. The spot, with a narrow beam angle and comparatively wide tilt range, is particularly suitable for gobo projections and light accents, which can be configured in a variety of ways courtesy of numerous features including the three-facet prism and motorised focus.

Extensive features

The light beam is emitted from the Varytec Hero Spot 90 at an angle of 15°, with the spotlight head rotating horizontally and vertically around the room by up to 540° and a maximum of 230°, respectively, while the motorised focus, a three-facet prism, a gobo wheel with eight static gobos, and a second one with six rotatable gobos offer a multitude of effects to create the perfect party atmosphere. The power connections are designed as power twist sockets, and the DMX signal is received and transmitted via a three-pin connector, which also addresses the operating options: In addition to the buttons below the display and the DMX option, the Varytec Hero Spot 90 can also be operated using the optional remote control function.

Operation made easy

Party organisers and disco operators can attach the Varytec Hero Spot 90 securely to a truss using the mounting bracket provided and use the colour wheel, which offers seven different colours plus white, to its full effect. The moving light is the perfect accompaniment for bands on tour, who can simply place the easily portable unit weighing just 7.2kg on the stage floor, while the power twist sockets with slip-proof cables will ensure a stable power supply. Owners of music clubs have six or 16 DMX channels at their fingertips, enabling them to create a range of effects - from a spotlight on the lead vocalist to geometrical shapes circling through the darkness. Private users opting for particularly simple operation, however, can achieve the same effects using the optional remote control function.

Lighting up the party

Voor de prijs die je betaald voor deze movinghead krijg je een behoorlijke hoeveelheid licht en best wel leuke functies.
De output is ongeveer vergelijkbaar met de MAC250's maar deze gebruiken aanzienlijk minder vermogen.

We hebben 4 van deze movingheads aangeschaft voor een zaal van ongeveer 300 personen en dat werkt goed.

De beide gobowielen zijn een leuke toevoeging en de roterende gobo's zijn een toevoeging. Het kleurenwiel is erg beperkt maar geeft wel mooie kleuren. De combinatie van een roterende prisma, gobo en splitcolor geeft erg mooie effecten.

De snelheid waarmee de gobo's en kleuren wisselen is niet super snel maar is acceptabel.
Bij het wisselen van kleuren komt de hele regenboog snel voorbij. van de laatste naar de eerste kleur draait het wiel volledig terug.

De zoom functie is verschrikkelijk traag en is alleen bedoeld voor het focussen van gobo's. Als effect is de zoom niet te gebruiken.

Pan en Tilt zijn redelijk snel maar bij de kleinere bewegingen zijn de stappen zichtbaar en ontstaan er trillingen.

Een klein nadeel is dat de meeste lichtsturingen deze spot niet standaard in de library hebben en er dus zelf een fixture profile gemaakt moet of worden of gedownload moet worden.

Samengevat is het een leuke spot met een behoorlijke output voor de prijs.

+ Voor deze prijs, een movinghead met veel output 2x gobowiel een prisma en automatische focus en mooi kleuren facet.
+ Je kunt zelf je 0 punt van de lamp instellen
+ Er zit DMX HOLD op. (Bij uitvallen dmx blijft hij doorgaan)
+ Je kunt de gevoeligheid van de lamp aanpassen

- Ventilator maakt veel geluid
- Ik mis persoonlijk zelf de pan en tilt fine, ik vind hem bij een langzaam effect erg stroef.

I bought these to replace my old Spot 250 XT moving heads which always were prone to over heating and are really heavy to today's standards. I almost only do Totems and i confirmed in the instruction manual that this unit had 270º of Tilt. It isn't the case and i think Thomann should change their advertised specs as the mislead costumers. Because of this, these are better positioned upside down that standing.

Cons

The rotating gobos don't spin in their center axys, specially in fast rotation seems that they are moving up and down which is really annoying

The Tilt angle is not near the 270º advertised, i took the time to measure and its about 220º which is not enough for totem position

The Prism 3 facet are too distant apart from one to another. This make the rotating prism effect not as nice as if they were overlapping.

Conclusion

This is a great value for money, compact, decently built quality for its price and really easy to work with. Please don't consider this for totem use.

This were the first movingheads i bought. I use them on a truss, this works perfect.

- gobo's aren't perfect

For beginners who never used a moving fixture, I would defenitly recommend it. It easy to use and for it's size it is very bright. Gobo's aren't perfect but it's almost not noticeable.
