The TWS BassBoy is an all-tube bass amp head with an output of up to 50W RMS, making it perfect for small gigs and studio sessions. Its power section delivers a clear, bass-heavy low end, while the preamp can serve up a slightly distorted tube tone usually only found in much bigger amps at higher volumes. Pulling out the preamp knob engages the Ultra Bright function, which lifts the highs and really brings dull bass tones to life. Two 6.3mm speaker outputs are linked to an impedance selector, letting the BassBoy run with 4 , 8 , or 16-ohm cabinets. On top of that, it has an XLR output for a transformer-balanced DI signal, and a ground/lift switch to help eliminate hum and ground-loop buzz.
Inside the TWS BassBoy head, a tube circuit inspired by the vintage Ampeg B-15 takes care of the tone. A 6SL7 preamp tube delivers smooth tube character and warm overdrive, while two 6L6 power tubes - well known for their clear, punchy bass response - take care of the output. The amp's three-band Baxandall EQ includes bass and treble controls, plus a Character dial for the mids: What makes it special is that this control also adjusts the centre frequency and bandwidth of the mids, letting players dial in tones ranging from subtle, modern sounds to aggressive, vintage-style bass with plenty of presence.
The TWS BassBoy is an all-tube amp head built for bassists who know exactly what they want. Its electronics are housed in a rugged aluminium chassis, and as always with TWS gear, this handmade German amp's connections are, without exception, point-to-point soldered with no unnecessary cables, connectors, or ICs. This not only ensures a clear tone and reduces contact resistance, but also prevents potential crackling or dropouts caused by corrosion. On top of that, all mechanical moving parts are kept separate from the electrical connections, making the amp extremely low-maintenance. The power supply is generously rated so it's never pushed too hard, and the 18mm pine plywood cabinet adds the kind of durability that stands up to frequent transport and gigging. To top it off, a custom-fit protective cover is also available.
Tube WorkShop (TWS) is a young German company founded by a seasoned guitarist and audio electronics engineer. TWS offers handcrafted guitar amplifiers tailored for players who demand exceptional tonal quality and emotional depth from their amps. TWS amplifiers combine superior craftsmanship with the musical complexity inspired by vintage amps. Their designs primarily utilise valve (tube) technology, focusing on sound, tactile feedback, and aesthetic appeal. TWS's lineup includes combo amps, amp heads, and matching speaker cabinets. Additionally, they offer custom amp designs, tailored to meet individual customer specifications.
The TWS BassBoy lets players switch both the output power and the operating mode of its power stage, meaning that the amp can run at either 30 W RMS or 50 W RMS, while its tone shifts from the classic 1960s-style circuit sound to the typical 1970s Ampeg vibe. This tonal flexibility is immensely impressive: The BassBoy can deliver warm, Motown-style bass lines in the studio, yet roar along with growling Motörhead covers on a pub stage. It will also shine as a practice amp at home or in the rehearsal room, offering that fully-fledged all-tube sound even at lower volumes. And thanks to its compact size and light weight, it's a high-quality, transport-friendly solution for everything a bassist might need it for.
