This sub is absolutely insane when driven properly!
I got 6 of these cabinets in 2024 and I’ve been using them with the Achat 208 speakers in various settings. From outside gigs with all 6 of them in cardioid underneath the stage to tents with just 4 of them, stacked 2 high in a classic LR setup. The absolute nauseating low end from these cabs is insane.
They sound like a 21” driver but behave like the 12” they are. Because they’re double 12”, they sound extremely tight and punchy. The kick drum is like a punch in the stomach and the bass guitar makes the ground shake. And don’t get me started on DJs; the produced music they play fits perfectly with the huge range these cabs have.
I’m using fairly big DSP controlled digital amplifiers to drive them, which pump out 1500W @ 8 Ohm. Each sub is on it’s channel, giving maximum control over a cardioid pattern.
Speaking of which; because of the design of the cabinet, a natural cardioid pattern emerges. Stacking 2 on top of each other pretty much kills all low end at the rear of the cabinet, while even 40 meters away the actual air is moving.
Just remember that as with every Achat series speaker, the paint is fairly thin and damages easily. Nothing a fresh coat of Warnex won’t fix!
They’re big and clunky, but so well worth it. Just slap some wheels on the connector side so you can transport them right side up and you’re all set to go!
