Let your creativity flow

Loopers have been a very hot item for a few years now: Thanks to the impressive YouTube performances of countless artists from all over the world, these devices have become something of a “must have” for guitarists and bassists. The ability to successively layer multiple tracks on top of one another opens up entirely new avenues for solo artists and those who aspire to be so. The only thing that can sometimes be a drag is the lack of intuitive operation, and that is precisely where TC Electronic’s original Ditto looper came into play: The Danish company, which is famous for its innovations, has reduced the pedal’s user interface to one switch and one control knob, thus eliminating any unnecessary obstacles standing in the way of artists’ creativity. The Ditto + additionally provides space for storing 99 loop sessions, a significantly longer recording time, and an innovative Extended Loop Mode.

Intuitive operation and plenty of memory

The Ditto + Looper will fit into pretty much any gap on your pedalboard. The pedal boasts an unlimited number of loops as well as a total of 60 minutes’ recording time, and it delivers uncompressed sound quality with a 24-bit resolution. The central control knob adjusts the volume of the loops that have been recorded, while all of the pedal’s other functions – such as recording, playback, stop, start, delete, undo, and redo – are activated by pressing and holding the footswitch in the required manner (long, short, etc.).The display also provides visual feedback at all times. 99 memory patches are available for complete loop sessions, which can be easily selected using the two arrow buttons. Sessions can also be saved to a computer – and data transferred to the pedal – via the looper’s USB connection. An important feature is the new Extended Loop Mode, which allows players to combine loops of varying lengths (e.g. of two, four, or eight bars).

Great for solo artists, great for YouTubers, great for everyone

TC Electronic’s Ditto + Looper is aimed at guitarists and bassists who want to create multi-layered soundscapes and effectively become their own one-man band – something that can be done at home, on stage, or in YouTube and Instagram videos. The Ditto + makes it possible for everybody to deliver a complete performance without needing any other musicians to do so. Despite the wealth of new features, however, the Ditto + Looper has still retained its main strength: The simple and intuitive user interface, which TC Electronic has aimed squarely at players who want to get started right away without having to read endless instructions or work their way through complicated sub-menus.

About TC Electronic

The Danish company TC Electronic has been known for its innovative products for many years. It was founded in 1976 by brothers Kim and John Rishøj in Aarhus. The company first made a name for itself with the SCF, a stereo chorus/flanger pedal for guitar. Studio equipment followed during the 80s and 90s, notably the legendary TC2290 digital delay in 19-inch rack format. Since the 2000s, TC Electronic has greatly enriched the guitar and bass scene with amplifiers, cabinets, combos, and effects pedals. Here too, TC's innovative spirit is in evidence, for example with its TonePrint technology and the first polyphonic guitar tuner. TC Electronic has been part of Music Tribe since 2015.

A useful practice tool

Loopers are generally associated with players who superimpose several tracks on top of one another to create complex, multi-layered musical pieces – impressive and inspiring examples of which are on display on video platforms like YouTube. But loopers can do a lot more: Among other things, they can be a helpful tool in your day-to-day practice routine and make certain other auxiliary devices obsolete. For example, a looper can be used to record a short, percussive guitar or bass loop that serves as a metronome or drum machine. Chord sequences can also be looped in order to provide the necessary harmonic context for getting to grips with note theory or for improvising. These are just some of the many ways in which a looper can help players to practise more easily and more effectively.

Geweldig pedaaltje voor een lage prijs!
Pineapple Parakeet 09.03.2021

Seems OK but documentation is lacking
Blandrys 18.05.2021
Have only sat with the device for a couple of hours, but the recommended power supply (Thomann NT 0910 AC/PSA) adds so much noise to the signal that I consider the combination pretty much unusable. Maybe I was unlucky and got a B-unit, but I would definitely recommend against buying that power supply to use with the Ditto+. All items (amp+ditto) were connected through a power conditioner strip. When the power supply is not plugged in and the device is in pass-through mode the signal is clean and noise free.

The device comes with basically no manual except for a quick-starter page, and the Extended Play function (or how to use it) is not mentioned anywhere. I had to google to find out. Same for info on how to update the firmware. Also no info on how to find out what the present firmware version is.

Apart from that it seem to be as advertised, but I feel so disheartened by the hissy sound that I won't be using this until I get a more high-quality power supply sorted. I might extend this review once I get a chance to play with the device hum-free, presuming that is still on the table. Might also update my start ratings at that point.

I found it quite hard to sync the loop start and end properly but maybe that will improve with practice.

EDIT: finally got a replacement power supply (Harley Benton PowerPlant ISO-1 Pro) and now the sound is excellent with no distortions or hiss.

Having used the device for a while now I think it's a great little thing, but it does get really confusing with only a single button to control all the functions (play, stop, record, undo/redo). Occasionally you end up accidentally deleting the entire track and then - and this is really stupid - once you delete the main track you can no longer use undo to get it back! Undo only works on the last take. This should really be changed by the manufacturers. Others than that, quite happy with it.

Not good for backing tracks
Wiltrea 24.11.2021
I bought this to jam with backing tracks, and with 99 tracks and 60 minute loop time and unlimited dubs, i didn't think this was going to be a problem. However there is hardly any space on it! I fit 5-6 tracks, which I had to cut down quite a bit.
The tracks also have to be 16-bit wav files which doesn't help, little surprised it doesn't recognise mp3.

Also it would be nice to have some indication of the file name on screen, or at the very least keep the file name on the device when you reconnect it to your computer. It renames them back to "Track (X)", which I found annoying.

The pedal itself is small, sturdy and seems well built.

Overall i'm pretty disappointed with it, especially from what it promised it could be.
