An analogue compressor for every channel

The Tascam SERIES 8p Dyna is an eight-channel microphone preamplifier and DA converter with compressor. Featuring a sleek front panel and extensive connectivity options, the rugged 1U, 19" SERIES 8p Dyna is an ideal expansion unit for audio interfaces with ADAT and S/MUX inputs via its optical S/MUX outputs. Each channel includes individually switchable phantom power and a built-in single-knob analogue compressor with individually assignable true bypass. The first two channels also function as instrument inputs, selectable via front-panel switches. The unit includes the Tascam PS-P1230 power adapter, featuring four interchangeable plug attachments for global compatibility.

High-end preamplification

All eight channels are equipped with Tascam's proprietary HDIA (High Definition Instrumentation Architecture) microphone preamps, delivering transparent, natural sound with a maximum gain of 52dB. The input section features combo XLR/jack connectors, while the output side offers three options: balanced 6.3mm jack outputs, a 25-pin D-sub connector, and two optical S/MUX outputs. The uncluttered front-panel display provides detailed metering for each channel, showing levels, sampling rate, clipping, and compression status. For seamless integration with professional setups or multiple preamp configurations, the Tascam SERIES 8p Dyna includes both word clock input and output for precise synchronisation.

It's five stars for the value. I bought it because I needed more input channels on my RME Babyface. Tascam knows how to make preamps. It's not a boutique thing, but it's a, very clean, 8-channel, rack for a very reasonable price, it has an optical output so that you can record up to 8 channels at 96Khz with a single output cable, and it also has built-in limiters. I think it's perfect to expand your sound card and have more channels for recording drums or a small band. Noise is low, it has 52dB of gain and the frequency response is very linear. It certainly does the job.

Bei Tascam weiß man, wie Mikrofonverstärker gebaut werden müssen und das schon lange. So auch hier: Offener, detaillreicher Klang, leichte Bedienbarkeit, selbst die 1-Regler-Kompressoren (wovon ich normalerweise gar nicht überzeugt bin) funktionieren gut. Lediglich die Feinjustierung der Gainregler könnte etwas präziser gestaltet sein, das ist aber Meckern auf sehr hohem Niveau und man muss dabei den Preis im Auge behalten.
Einfach ans RME UCX angeschlossen, die Kanäle zugeordnet und fertig ist, sowohl ein toller Livemischer, als auch ein grandioses Aufnahmegerät mit sehr hoher Audioqualität.

Es Tascam. Pros: Buenos preamplificadores HDIA. Sonido muy limpio sin añadidos. Con compresor análogico 3:1. Contra: cuesta ver la raya de los potenciometros al ser plateados.
