An easy-to-use monitor controller

The Swissonic M-Control is an affordable passive monitor controller whose design focuses on the features that are essential for such devices. It controls the monitoring volume (including a mute function) and offers the option of mono summing, but leaves advanced functions such as input switching for different sources and output switching for multiple monitoring options to its big brother, the Swissonic M-Control +. Likewise, talkback, dim, and bass management for connected subwoofers have also been left out in order to make this model as "back to basics" as possible. The Swissonic M-Control does, however, provide a solid basis for those who appreciate the directness of tangible controls when adjusting their monitoring volume.

Classic position in the signal chain

The Swissonic M-Control is encased in a robust metal housing and can be easily integrated into an existing monitoring system in the same manner as other monitoring controllers. It can be connected to an audio interface via its XLR/jack combo sockets and also features a second stereo input in 3.5mm mini-jack format, which can be used to connect a smartphone or similar playback device, for example. On the output side, there are two XLR sockets for connecting active studio monitors and a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack socket. All inputs and outputs are always simultaneously active and can be used at the same time.

A solid choice for home studios

The Swissonic M-Control is designed for users involved in music and multimedia production who do not want to invest a three or four-figure sum in a monitor controller. At the same time, it offers consistently good performance from a technical point of view. A very good stereo balance is achieved over almost the entire range of the large volume control, and the output signal remains free of crosstalk or noise when the mono and mute buttons are pressed, even at high monitoring levels. All in all, the Swissonic M-Control with its largely neutral sound is thus a rock-solid choice for home studios.

Launched in 1998, Swissonic is an in-house brand operated by Thomann. Swissonic's range of electronic and digital devices are built to precise specifications by well-known manufacturers and are thus available at very favourable prices via direct marketing without distributors. A good choice even for small workspaces

With its compact and robustly built metal housing, complete with wood-effect sides, the Swissonic M-Control will look good on any desktop. Thanks to its non-slip rubber feet and relatively high weight of 400 grams, the monitor controller, which measures 16.2 x 9.8 x 5.4cm, will sit securely in place even when there is a slight tug on the connected cables. The Swissonic M-Control is available in a bundle with the Swissonic ASM5 and ASM7 active nearfield monitors, but can of course also be used with all commonly available studio monitors. Moreover, it is also possible to connect it to consumer-grade subwoofers and active loudspeakers.

A handy device to the monitor volume control without influencing the headphonegain in your DAW.
Works with classic XLR link jacks.
No power supply and is pleasant.
This thing does what it needs to do and is an asset to your studio.
Of course there are units with more facilities but those are for more specific applications.
In similar specifications this is a cost/benefit useful investment.
This unit contains all what you need to be able to work just fine in your studio. Of course protect from dust and it will years meet your requirements.
A very genteel device for its price.
Disadvantages, not yet experienced.

After 4 years of use some issues arise...

I have used this one for 4 years, super useful to have it, even sometimes it can serve as a DI/jack-xlr adapter. Endurability is not the best,I now have issues with the mute button. Sometimes when using the mute button, the right channel speakers stays muted and doesn't come back on. Now I mute it using the volume buttom. Perhaps some spray could help, but also thinking about switching to a new one that includes multiple inputs and outputs.

Handig en praktisch

Ik zocht een eenvoudige regelaar om het algemene volume van mijn monitors snel en makkelijk te kunnen regelen met een grote knop.
Dit kastje is een goede oplossing. Het is een stevig gebouwd kastje met een soepele grote volumeregelaar en XLR aansluitingen.
Op zich werkt het apparaat prima, maar één dingetje is minder goed uitgevoerd.
De Mute knop onderbreekt het signaal weliswaar, maar dan duikt er een brom op. Keihard over beide kanalen. Typisch het geluid van een open verbinding. Normaal wordt zoiets voorkomen door het signaal kort te sluiten naar aarde. Dat gebeurt hier dus niet.
Ik verwacht de mute knop weinig te gebruiken, dus een echt probleem is het niet. Maar wel jammer.
In het gebruik is het een handig en praktisch apparaat.

Simpel, duurzaam, degelijk

Ik gebruik de controller puur om geluidsniveau van de KRK's te regelen met een 'echte' knop ipv via het toetsenbord. De knop werkt heerlijk. Ik gebruik het geheel niet in een geluidsstudio-omgeving of iets dergelijks. Balansknop was wel handig geweest. Maar in (de) (mijn) praktijk hoef je die maar 1x in te stellen. Alles voelt heel erg degelijk aan. De kabelaansluitingen 'pakken' goed, je hebt nooit het gevoel dat er een stekker los raakt bij verplaatsing van de controller. Gekocht in de bundelaanbieding van Thomann... Super gewoon!!!
