Cost-effective signal distribution
The Swissonic Headamp 8 is a cost-effective headphone amplifier that provides a straightforward solution for flexible monitoring setups. As the name suggests, it offers eight independent stereo channels, each with its own controls, indicators, and 6.3mm jack socket conveniently located on the front panel. The rear panel provides TRS jack inputs and outputs, with two inputs allowing users to switch between two different mixes for monitoring. This means that up to eight pairs of headphones can be connected simultaneously, giving musicians and sound engineers the flexibility to monitor either mix according to their individual requirements. With its combination of multiple channels, simple operation, and versatile monitoring options, the Headamp 8 is a practical rack unit for setups where several people need access to separate headphone mixes without a major investment.
Flexible monitoring
Each of the eight headphone amplifier channels offers the same set of controls, with a rotary knob for adjusting the desired volume and a button for switching between the two available mixes. The corresponding Main 1 and Main 2 sockets are located on the rear panel, with each connection capable of carrying a stereo signal. A second button on the front panel provides the option of monitoring the selected channel in mono, while a six-segment level meter gives a clear overview of the signal level. The meter also features a red LED that indicates when the respective channel is approaching or reaching overload. On the rear panel, each channel is equipped with its own input and output, allowing an additional input signal to be mixed internally with the signal routed to the corresponding headphone output.
Quick and easy to use
The Headamp 8 is designed for distributing monitoring signals to musicians and sound engineers in rehearsal rooms, recording studios, schools, and other environments where several listeners need access to the same audio sources. Its 19" rackmount design occupies just 1U, making it well suited to installations where available space is limited. The controls are generously backlit, allowing them to be located and adjusted easily even in low-light conditions, which can be particularly useful in rehearsal rooms or during evening events. Power is supplied via the included IEC mains cable, while a switch on the rear panel allows the operating voltage to be set to either 115V or 230V, which makes the Headamp 8 a practical choice for a variety of fixed and mobile monitoring setups.
About Swissonic
Launched in 1998, Swissonic is an in-house brand operated by Thomann. Swissonic's range of electronic and digital devices are built to precise specifications by well-known manufacturers and are thus available at very favourable prices via direct marketing without distributors. Swissonic mainly focuses on devices for use in conjunction with a computer. The product range therefore includes interfaces, webcams, monitoring speakers, MIDI keyboards, and routers but also sound converters and rack-mounted electronic equipment. Swissonic thus provides an extensive wide range of affordable equipment for computer and home studio-based sound processing.
Monitoring for two mixes
In addition to the eight individual channels, the levels of both mixes, Main In 1 and Main In 2, can also be adjusted directly on the front panel, with a dedicated level meter providing a clear overview of the signal. A button allows users to switch between the two mixes, giving musicians the option of choosing between different monitoring signals during live band recordings, which can be particularly useful when recording instruments such as bass and drums simultaneously. For sound engineers, the same function can be used for A/B comparisons or to monitor different microphones during a recording session. The additional inputs provided for each channel on the rear panel offer further scope for tailoring the individual mixes to suit the requirements of the setup. At the same time, all headphone mixes can be routed to the control room through the corresponding connections on the rear panel, allowing the sound engineer to monitor each mix individually.
