Sound, perfected
The Selmer Muse 18/6 B-flat clarinet offers easy response and a sound rich in overtones, for flexibility and reliability alike. This Boehm-system B-flat clarinet was developed in collaboration with principal clarinettists from orchestras in a range of countries – for musicians looking for an instrument with a response that's both direct and very precise. As a result, it's remarkably easy to play, with immediate resonance and a clear tone that has plenty of colour, yet loses none of its warmth. The Muse series of clarinets has been revised in a number of ways, improving its sound, playing comfort, and overall design. One example is its optimised intonation, which is precisely calibrated for accurate intervals. It’s also been given a new bore with conical sections, along with redesigned tone holes.

Dynamic control
At its heart, the Selmer Muse 18/6 is a high-quality Boehm-system B-flat clarinet with 18 keys and 6 rings, plus an E-flat lever. Its special features include the so-called Evolution system in the upper joint: a resin-sealed bore designed to ensure a particularly long playing life. Made from grenadilla wood, the instrument has silver-plated keywork, along with two silver-plated rings and two matte black chrome-plated rings. The pads also reflect the importance the French workshop places on contemporary quality: They combine Gore-Tex and leather, which also helps support the instrument's rich, strong, and sustaining sound. The result is an instrument that sounds elegant, plays with refinement, and looks thoroughly modern.

For professional musicians
The Selmer Muse 18/6 B-flat clarinet is aimed primarily at professional orchestral musicians and soloists, but also at accomplished amateurs looking for an instrument that speaks exceptionally directly. Indeed, producing a tone feels like a natural extension of the breath. Alongside the 18 keys and 6 rings, the E-flat lever helps ensure even complex passages can be played fluently. The clarinet can also be used in orchestras with different tuning standards, as it’s designed for a tuning range of A = 440–442Hz. Players who choose this instrument also benefit from a generous package, which includes two barrels (64mm and 65mm), a Selmer Echo mouthpiece, and a PRiSMe case, as well as cleaning accessories.

About Selmer
Henri Selmer Paris, founded in 1885 by Henri Selmer – a clarinettist and graduate of the Paris Conservatoire – is a legendary French manufacturer of wind instruments. Initially producing clarinet mouthpieces, the company soon expanded to full clarinets and gained global recognition for its craftsmanship and quality. Selmer became particularly renowned for its saxophones, which have been favoured by countless jazz musicians since the 1920s. Beyond saxophones and clarinets, Selmer also crafts trumpets, trombones, and horns, continually refining its instruments through collaborations with leading musicians and the use of premium materials.
Evolution technology
One of the typical weak points of any clarinet is the upper joint, which, in the worst case, can develop cracks even with the most careful handling. This is exactly what Selmer's Evolution technology addresses: The bore is lined with a next-generation resin, which forms a watertight barrier that stops moisture from getting into the wood fibres. This gives the instrument greater stability and longevity, while preserving the acoustic properties of a traditional wooden clarinet. It's a genuine innovation, then, and one Henri Selmer Paris stands fully behind. How fully? Well, the renowned brand offers a 10-year warranty on the upper joint of all its Evolution clarinets. That should speak for itself.
