The RØDE X Streamer X is an all-in-one solution for creating audio and video data streams and, as an interface, is therefore primarily designed for streaming applications. In addition to an XLR/jack combo socket for connecting a microphone, the back of the device is also fitted with an HDMI input and connections for headphones and a headset. The RØDE X Streamer X also features an integrated wireless receiver, which can be used to run the manufacturer’s optional Wireless GO II and Wireless ME radio links. Samples can be played via the four pads on the user interface, which are stored in the 2GB audio memory. In summary, the features of the RØDE X Streamer X provide content creators with an intuitive interface for successful streaming.

Intuitive operation

The interface of the RØDE X Streamer X works with just a small number of controls, making its operation particularly intuitive. The two encoders can be used to control the volume of the connected microphone and headphones or headset, connections for which are located on the back of the device. The XLR/jack combo socket allows both microphones and instruments to be connected, making an impromptu live performance possible during the stream. Phantom power for condenser microphones can be activated using the P48 button, and the channel is muted for three seconds after this button is pressed to automatically avoid noise interference in the stream. The HDMI input supports a video resolution of up to 4K60 HDR as well as VRR. To the left of the HDMI input is a "thru" output, which allows the video signal to be transmitted without latency.

For successful video streams

The RØDE X Streamer X is aimed at all streamers who are looking for a compact solution that will allow them to get their content online easily. The beauty of this interface lies in its particularly simplistic operation. Low-noise vocals are ensured by the high-gain Revolution Preamp and APHEX audio processing, with the latter also enabling the application of effects to all input signals via the RØDE Central software when the interface is connected to a computer. The RØDE X Streamer X is powered via USB ports 1 and 3A, with the latter also being suitable for standalone use. A microphone, headset, or wireless microphone from the manufacturer can be connected for signal transmission, and users can select between audio and HDMI streams if the interface is connected to a computer.

Founded in Sydney, Australia in 1990, Rode is a specialist in high-quality studio microphones. With its very first in-house, completely Australian-built model, the NT2 large-diaphragm microphone, the company created a classic which is still produced in its current and enhanced version, the NT2-A. An extensive range of studio and live microphones has also been added, regularly updated, and expanded over the years. These new additions include a variety of professional microphones which are designed for video and mobile applications and can be connected directly to SLR cameras or smartphones.

Individual pad configuration

The pads on the RØDE X Streamer X can be used not only to trigger samples but also to activate effects for the microphone signal and send commands for the mixer or even MIDI data, and the arrow keys allow the user to switch between the two banks of pads. If connected to a computer, the RØDE X Streamer X can be switched to presentation mode using the RØDE Central software, allowing it to take over the commands of the arrow keys on the keyboard. In addition to the four pads, the RØDE X Streamer X user interface has a button for muting the connected microphone and deactivating the video stream. Users will therefore have a wealth of functions at their disposal, giving them full control over their streams.

Leider kein Anschluss von Mac/iPhone/iPad über HDMI möglich

Das Konzept des Streamer X ist natürlich genial, und es wäre auch für mich die perfekte Lösung gewesen… wenn es nicht diese Begrenzung gäbe, dass ein über HDMI angeschlossener Mac (genauso wie iPhone oder iPad, anderer Plattformen habe ich nicht getestet) kein Bild ausgibt, sondern eine "HDCP Capture not supported" Meldung über den HDMI-Ausgang gezeigt wird.

Klar, ich verstehe den Sinn dahinter: HDCP ist ein Kopierschutz, damit man nicht z.B. einen Film bei Netflix auf dem iPhone abspielt und über HDMI Capture dann eben aufnimmt.

Aber: andere bekommen es auch ohne diese Einschränkung hin. Ich kann über einen Blackmagic ATEM oder einen Elgato CamLink oder -zig andere HDMI Capture Interfaces den HDMI-Ausgang meines Mac nutzen, um Tutorials und Screencasts zu erstellen. Vermutlich greift HDCP dort auch, aber erst dann, wenn auch wirklich DRM-geschützte Inhalte abgespielt werden (ich hab's noch nie probiert).

Warum schafft Røde das nicht? Würde diese Einschränkung aufgehoben werden, wäre der Streamer X das Gerät meiner Träume. So wird daraus leider eine Retoure.

Wunderkiste die mir das Leben leichter macht

Durch die Vereinigung von Audio- und Videointerface mit integriertem DSP ist der Rode X Streamer X für mich perfekt für ZOOM- und andere Videokonferenzen. Unter anderem, da ich jetzt keine Latenz mehr zwischen Bild und Ton habe, wie es vorher bei der Verwendung des Elgato Cam Links und eines separaten Audiointerfaces der Fall war.

Meine Lösung war bisher mit "Audio Hijack" die Latenz zwischen Bild und Ton auszugleichen und den Ton meines Mikros zu optimieren. Das ist jetzt nicht mehr nötig, auch dank des DSP in dem Interface.

Das kleine Kistchen spart mir also einiges an Zeit und macht Videokonferenzen leichter für mich.

Einzige Kleinigkeit, die mir nicht so gefällt sind die Tasten, die für mich einen zu schwammigen, weichen Anschlag haben.

Audio delen fejlen intet, det er solid Røde kvalitet, som man kender det.

Men video delen er skandaløs ringe, hamrende ustabil. Fungerer ikke som lovet med Apple Silicon. Vil blandt andet ikke optage i 4K i QT, ændrer kamera fps osv.

Dertil er Unify softwaren noget af det mest ustabile, jeg længe har oplevet.

Har ikke kunne bruge produktet som forventet en eneste gang.

Vorsicht: Schönes Gerät, leider funktioniert es nicht

Leider funktioniert das Gerät nicht wie erwartet:
macOS verliert das Gerät regelmässig aus dem System und ich muss es vom Strom trennen und wieder anschliessen damit es wieder erkannt wird. Und dann kommt oft trotzdem kein Ton raus und man muss es mehrmals neu Starten. Bei Windows ähnliches Problem, Gerät wird zwar erkannt, aber Ton funktioniert nicht und kann nur durch Neustarten vom Streamer X gelöst werden. Echt schade.
Firmware + Software auf aktuellem Stand.
