These strings are lovingly made in the heart of Germany and they are in my experience simply fantastic. I’ve been using them for a few years now and I haven’t found a better string for my music. My main guitar is a Strat type guitar but I have had them in Gibson type guitars and these strings always feel and sound great.
I ordered my first set when I read the very positive reviews made in the magazine ToneQuest. I realised that for the music I was playing (Chicago and West Coast blues and 60s British rock) I needed a string that could provide those elusive tones. I had the right guitar and the right amp with the right speakers but there was something missing. Then I realised that hex core, stainless steel strings were just the wrong choice. I first tried pure nickel strings from a different manufacturer and they helped but there was still room for improvement.
The Pyramids Nickel Classics were the answer! The round core made the strings more flexible and supple, thus helping guitar bending (a must in blues) and ensured that the wound strings sounded as they should. The plain strings also felt better and this set (10-46) was the perfect compromise for me between tension and tone. The tone is incredible rich and definitely “old-school”, for a lack of a better word: very 60s sounding. Another plus is that they seem to last a long time and they do not change tone that much. They sound slightly worn-in from when you first put them on and the tone does not change even after some heavy sessions down in the club. Just make sure you do not cut them short before attaching them and you are safe.
I would recommend these strings for anybody who likes the good ol’ tones of yesteryear guitar music. By the way, I have left the best aspect for last: the price for a set of these Pyramid strings at Thomann is really, really reasonable. I have found my string for life.
