I soldered this connector onto a 7.6mm cable to create a large to small TRS adapter. Out of the several 3.5mm TRS connectors I bought which were all meant for large cable diameters, this was the only one I could put on this cable without modification. The cable I used it on (Sommer Carbokab 225) has an additional layer of PVC insulation around the 2 conductors under the shield, co I clamped the strain relief around that. It didn't look like I would be able to clamp it around the outer PVC, get a secure grip and still get the housing on but I did not actually attempt. The end of the cable does get a bit wider as you twist the shield together on one side for soldering, so the full diameter could have been around the 8.5mm limit.
The thread inside the housing and the groovy non-slip part outside are conductive. They get connected to the sleeve when the housing is screwed on.
