HEDDphones made in Berlin
The HEDDphone One is a world first: A headphone that implements Air Motion Transformer (AMT) technology as a full-range driver. As such, the HEDDphone One boasts many of the same capabilities that AMT drivers are known for: linearity, detail, and responsiveness. This makes this high-resolution headphone an excellent choice for reference work in demanding audio settings, both for mixing and mastering. The HEDDphone One comes with a dual-sided cable (HPC1) with four-pin mini-XLR jacks for the earcups and a standard 6.3mm stereo jack for connecting it to a headphone amplifier.
Variable Velocity Transformation
The AMT principle was designed for use as a tweeter in high-end studio loudspeakers, which is still its primary habitat to this day. However, by entirely revising the geometry of the membrane, the engineers at HEDD have succeeded in turning the Air Motion Transformer into a full-range driver. The technology behind this feat is called Variable Velocity Transformation, which provides a linear frequency response that goes well beyond the audible sound spectrum, as well offering a more direct response than traditional drivers. With a sensitivity of 87db SPL/mW, the HEDDphone One requires a high-performance headphone amplifier to really show off its full potential.
For the mixing desk and the editing suite
Neutrality, accuracy, transparency, depth – these are the qualities that define the HEDDphone One. The unique VVT technology allows the electrodynamic Air Motion Transformers to cover the entire audible spectrum, although of course they do need to be driven at a decent level to fully reproduce contours and dynamics in the low end. An open-ear headphone, the HEDDphone One is ideally suited for mixing duties, but also for the editing suite. Because of the large, heavy drivers, the weight of the unit is certainly substantial, but the cushioning on the headband and the earcups ensures a comfortable fit even over longer sessions.
About HEDD
The family-owned company HEDD Audio was founded in 2015 in Berlin, where it still manufactures its high-quality studio monitors, subwoofers, and hi-fi speakers, as well as headphones – or HEDDphones. The name HEDD stands for Heinz ElectroDynamic Design, after its founder Klaus Heinz (who also founded ADAM Audio); his son, who himself has a PhD in musicology, is now CEO. The company’s R&D work is based on their decades of experience, and its mission is to deliver outstandingly detailed sound and optimum signal quality. A whole host of renowned DJs and mastering engineers, including DJ Jazzy Jeff and Sascha "Busy" Bühren, swear by HEDD products for their day-to-day work.
Detailed audio reproduction
The HEDDphone One has been designed expressly as a high-precision tool for producers who work in professional studio environments – whether their focus is on mixing, mastering, editing, or post-production. This open-air headphone, with HEDD's special Air Motion Transformer and VVT technology, will win over even demanding specialists with its high resolution, deeply analytical, and evenly balanced audio reproduction throughout the entire audible spectrum. This adherence to neutrality makes the HEDDphone One a surprisingly versatile listening device, which is also true from a hardware perspective: Besides the HPC1 cable it ships with, there are four other cables available. They all take the four-pin mini-XLR jacks from the earcups, and end either in a 4.4mm Pentaconn, a four-pin XLR, a 3.5mm TRS or a 2.5 mm TRRS jack. All of this ensures that the HEDDphone One can be deployed confidently with a wide range of professional‑grade sources, even in demanding and technically diverse studio settings.
