Guitarjo or Banjitar?

Harley Benton HBJ-26 6-String Banjo

Harley Benton offers an impressively comprehensive variety of stringed instruments – and the HBJ-26 6-String Banjo is a particularly interesting addition to the stable. This model merges the traditional look and bright, punchy tone of a banjo with the familiar tuning and scale length of a standard guitar. The result is an instrument that delivers the characteristic banjo twang, while remaining instantly playable for guitarists, who'll have no need to adjust their technique. Despite its budget-friendly price, the HBJ-26 stands out with the solid build quality Harley Benton is known for, while the chrome-plated hardware and a 24-bracket rim provide refined visual accents that complement its unique design.

Solidly crafted, uniquely unusual

The Harley Benton HBJ-26 6-String Banjo features a closed-back sapele rim and a factory-fitted 11" Remo BJ-1102-LI head, forming the foundation of its characteristic tone. Complementing this is a high-gloss nato neck, seamlessly joined to a blackwood fingerboard with 22 frets. The head tension can be adjusted using the 24 brackets positioned around the rim. Its six steel strings, set to a standard guitar scale length of 648mm, run across a maple/blackwood bridge and a 43mm nut, ending at sealed machine heads on the headstock that ensure stable tuning. For added comfort, an armrest is mounted to the side of the rim, making extended playing sessions more ergonomic.

Bluegrass feeling for guitarists

For guitarists who love the distinctive sound of a banjo or need one for specific songs or gigs, the Harley Benton HBJ-26 6-String Banjo offers an affordable, hassle-free solution, meaning they'll have no need to relearn chords or change their playing style. Despite using steel strings, it delivers an authentic banjo-like tone while maintaining standard guitar tuning and scale length. This familiar setup not only makes it instantly playable but also unlocks new creative possibilities that traditional banjos simply can't offer. At its budget-friendly price point, the HBJ-26 is a compelling option for anyone curious to explore what a banjo has to offer without starting from scratch.

Banjo sounds for every occasion

With its large resonant rim and steel strings, the Harley Benton HBJ-26 6-String Banjo delivers enough volume to hold its own in acoustic jam sessions alongside other instruments. It's more than loud enough for practice or living room sessions, easily keeping pace with a standard acoustic guitar. Borrowing its six-string setup and full-scale length from the guitar, this banjo offers a unique twist on the traditional banjo, one full of creative potential. Guitarists can jump right into lush four- or five-note chords and even tackle intricate bluegrass-style solos – all without changing the way they play.

Action is way too high, poor craftsmanship, poor tuning stability and strings keep popping off the bridge.
