A great way to get to some bass on board

The Fun Generation PL 15 Sub A is the subwoofer from Thomann's in-house brand's PL line of loudspeakers, and quite simply one of the most affordable subbasses on the market. The PL 15 is the perfect partner for tops and full-range speakers that are lacking a little low end, although the sub's own frequency range is high enough that – thanks in no small part to the built-in stereo crossover – the separation of the signal between the sub and the tops is nice and smooth. The PL 15's woofer itself is – at 15", as the name suggests – absolutely huge for this price point, and although this does mean the enclosure also needs to be a decent size too, the sound it produces is well worth it. The sound can also be fine-tuned (assuming there are users who like experimenting with different subbass setups) with the phase invert switch.

Take it from the top

The Fun Generation PL 15 Sub A delivers rich bass with an output of 250W (RMS) and a maximum sound pressure level of 125dB. The frequency response, taking it from the top down for once, starts at 250Hz and extends down to 40Hz. Two handles recessed into the cabinet allow the 30kg unit to be moved to the stage. Its connections, all of them XLR sockets, are located on the rear panel: In addition to the two outputs on the crossover control panel, which can be set anywhere between 40 and 250Hz, there are two direct link outs above the inputs, which reproduce the input signal unaltered.

Give it some kick

The Fun Generation PL 15 A is an easy way to give an existing sound setup the full bass sound of a real subwoofer – without spending too much money doing so. In a couple of easy steps, this active subbass can be integrated into almost any stereo environment, bringing pro-grade features like its Class D amplifier and a ground lift, which helps eliminate the unwanted hum caused by ground loops. And because the PL 15 also comes with a phase switch, more ambitious beginners can test a whole range of different placement options for their subbasses. For bands taking their own PA on tour, the PL 15 can be kept safe and sound with Thomann's own water-resistant cover, designed to fit exactly this subwoofer perfectly.

About Fun Generation

Since 1999, the products of Thomann's house brand Fun Generation have been an integral part of the store's range. These products, which are made by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands, provide a convincing combination of quality and reliability at reasonable prices. The product range includes music stands and other hardware, Bluetooth speakers, LED spotlights, moving head lighting systems, and complete active PA sets as well as LED effects, microphone pickup systems, cables, and splitters. Price-conscious customers in the field of lighting and stage technology are sure to find what they are looking for in this extensive product range, which includes over 160 items.

Getting the bass in place

Two additional cables and a power source are all it takes to boost any existing sound system with the Fun Generation PL 15's rich, punchy bass. The standard configuration for setups without subs is to run the stereo out from the mixer to a pair of full-range speakers; with the PL 15 on board, the mixer's output should first be hooked up to the sub's two inputs. If it's a mixing desk with XLR outputs, a pair of Thomann's the sssnake SM10 BM microphone cables would be ideal. The stereo signal can then be passed onto the existing PA speakers via the subwoofer's Hi-Pass outs. And because low frequencies radiate almost omnidirectionally in a room, the subwoofer itself can be placed with considerable freedom – for example in a corner or under the stage.

Really good subwoofer for its price
pau.mori1 02.01.2020
I've been using it for a year now and it has a really good sound quality with a great level.
I tried it in interior and it is perfect for small places, in the other hand in the exterior it didn't performs that well.

In conclusion it is a really good product if you need a subwoofer for a small party.

A monster. For not too much money.

I use this subwoofer as a part of my Fun Generation PL110A Basis bundle. It's more than enough to do the the job... The sound is clean, round, well pronounced and it's just there, everywhere in the room... Where good sub-bass should be. If you turn it up, the whole house starts to quake. It's a beast for its price. The low-pass filter and phase switch is incredibly handy, you only need a sound sourse (a mixer, or an audio interface for example) and (active) speakers to start your party. Amazing!

Decent product, bad shipping
Brokenbasss 30.09.2025
Ordered this subwoofer a while ago.
The overall sound quality is good and worth the cost, the material of the speaker box isn't good though, poor wood paste very easy to break.
When I first received the product it came broken. The box it was packed on came degraded and didn't have any foam, thick cardboard or material to prevent damage in shipping.
The result: The subwoofer had a whole, done by the pressure of the cables and plug against the wooden box of the speaker.
Customer service was good, I sent it back and they quickly sent a new one, it took twice the time expected to arrive though. After some calls I managed to have it delivered.
When it arrived again was also poorly packed and came with some damages caused exactly by the same reason, although not as bad as the previous broken wood.
This feels for me like a amateur service. How can Thomann repeat the same mistake over again, even after a detailed report of the problem?!
Really hope this changes and doesn't happen to anyone else.

J
Great bass for the price
Janadox 22.10.2018
Great little sub for the money thats almost perfect.
Lets get the negatives out the way first. 1. The design and handling of the unit is not the best as its not properly weight balanced which means despite weighing nothing (in subwoofer terms) still requires two people to handle. 2. The lack of screw holes for a wheel kit
Now the advantages
1. Phenomenal sound from such a small box
2. Great selection of connections including filtered and unfiltered outputs so you can use the internal cross over or use your existing crossover
3. Construction, the frame is easily strong enough for even the most active of vocalists to jump on and use as an extension of the stage
All in an amazing little sub for its price, recently used on a reggae gig and 1 of these did a better job than 2 QSC powered subs that easily cost 5 times more for 2 times less quality, will be buying more and highly recommend to anyone
