About Ernie Ball

The Ernie Ball company was named after its founder and has its headquarters in San Luis Opisbo, California. Being a guitarist himself, Ernie Ball knew their needs very well. A major problem for him in the 1950s and 1960s was the lack of high-quality guitar and bass strings. In 1962, Ernie Ball invented the “Slinky”, a very flexible and therefore much more comfortable string, which also sounded better and was more durable. He specifically brought individual string gauges onto the market for a young clientele and touring musicians. The company’s success was unstoppable, and today Ernie Ball is the world's largest manufacturer of guitar and bass strings. Op het eerste zicht een koopje, maar schijn bedriegt

Als ik deze snaren had opgelegd dacht ik: wat een koopje.
Ze klonken goed, waren iets dikker dan verwacht, zagen er mooi uit. Maar nog geen week later waren de snaren al beschadigd door mijn plectrum. De fretjes stonden er al mooi in. De klank is al helemaal niet meer wat het moet zijn. 2-3 weken later zijn de snaren al grauw en bruin door het bespelen en beginnen al te oxideren. Deze snaren zijn na 3 weken tijd even aangetast als mijn vorige snaren na een 6 maanden. Kortom: geen goede koop. Goedkoop, ziet er goed uit op het eerste zicht, maar durabiliteit is bar slecht. Ook de duurdere Ernie Ball snaren op mijn andere gitaren vielen tegen. Ik loop schoorvoetend terug over naar D'addario...

Klaar met Ernie Ball.

Ok. Ze maken goed klinkende snaren. Maar daar is alles mee gezegd. Dit setje klinkt goed. Hoelang dat zo blijft is met bronzen snaren altijd even afwachten, maar dit materiaal reageert het beste op mijn soundhole pickup.
Ik heb van Ernie Bal al eerder de aluminium snaren gehad. Klinken werkelijk fantastisch, maar versterkt kwam het met heel veel bijgeluiden. Bleek een slechte combi met magnetische pickups te zijn. Jammer. Ik heb daar Ernie Ball meerdere malen over gemaild, of ze dat wisten en of daar misschien een oplossing voor is. Geen reactie. Hun Cobalt snaren voor elektrische gitaar klinken ook te gek. Maar ik heb al 5 x een nieuwe D-snaar gebroken bij het vastzetten in de locking tuner. Zijn erg dure snaren allemaal. Geen Ernie Ball dus meer voor deze jongen. Akoestisch blijf ik bij Martin, elektrisch bij Daddario Pro Steel.

Mooier geluid

Na lang de goedkope setjes van d'addario gebruikt te hebben in de oefenruimte, heb ik voor een optreden met deze gitaar deze Ernie Ball snaren aangeschaft. De afwerking is wat beter en ik heb het idee dat de Ernie Ball snaren langer meegaan, minder oxideren en vooral beter klinken.

Het geluid van deze bronze snaren is erg warm en veel minder schel dan de goedkopere setjes. Toch is de prijs nog steeds goed te doen. Ik kan ze iedereen aanbevelen.

ik weet echt niet wat ik meer moet zeggen over deze snaren, meer dan 10 jaar geleden voor het eerst op een gitaar gezet en daarna nooit meer de behoefte gehad om iets anders te proberen.
