About Ernie Ball

The Ernie Ball company was named after its founder and has its headquarters in San Luis Opisbo, California. Being a guitarist himself, Ernie Ball knew their needs very well. A major problem for him in the 1950s and 1960s was the lack of high-quality guitar and bass strings. In 1962, Ernie Ball invented the “Slinky”, a very flexible and therefore much more comfortable string, which also sounded better and was more durable. He specifically brought individual string gauges onto the market for a young clientele and touring musicians. The company’s success was unstoppable, and today Ernie Ball is the world's largest manufacturer of guitar and bass strings. Over the years, the range has expanded and now includes accessories such as cables, picks, straps, etc. Ernie Ball is also known in connection with the instrument manufacturer Music Man, which the company bought in 1984, but which continues to operate as an independent brand.

Elke gitarist heeft natuurlijk zijn eigen favoriete merk en type snaar. Maar naar mijn smaak klinken de Ernie Ball Slinky's gewoon het beste, terwijl ik een hoop alternatieven heb geprobeerd. Mijn eigen voorkeur gaat uit naar Power Slinky's, omdat ik van een beetje dikke sound hou en vrij sterke vingers heb. Er zijn snaren die langer meegaan, maar de klank weegt daar wat mij betreft tegenop.

Doffe klank

De snaren die ik ontving klinken erg dof op mijn Les Paul. Ik mis sustain. Ik mis boventonen. De d-snaar klinkt veel zachter dan de rest. Het was net alsof er al een jaar op deze snaren gespeeld was. Ik weet niet of ik toevallig een verkeerde lichting heb getroffen, maar ik ga de gok niet wagen en koop voortaan een ander merk. Weggegooid geld :-(

Speel al jaren met deze snaren. Zijn niet te schel, net iets meer bottom dan bijvoorbeeld dáddrio's . Breken eigenlijk nooit, voor die tijd heb ik ze al weer vervangen. Iets waar ik met andere merken wel meer last van heb.

Power Slinky's

Set wordt voornamelijk gebruikt voor een half step down tuning zodat de snaarspanning hoog genoeg blijft, maar ook voor standard tuning een prima optie.

Heldere klank en de levensduur van Ernie Ball's is in mijn ervaring altijd prima. Zelden breekt er een snaar. Naar mijn mening een aanrader.
