Electro Harmonix Platform Compressor/Limiter

Ik gebruik een compressor in de effectloop van mijn versterker, want dan werkt 'ie als een boost. Deze EHX is daarvoor zeer geschikt, vanwege de twee verschillende volumeknoppen die apart geschakeld kunnen worden met de voet. Dus zowel je clean als je scheurkanaal heeft op slag 2 extra levels!
De compressor werkt mooi op clean, maar op de scheur krijg ik bij mijn strat wel wat bijgeluiden bij hoge bends (misschien ligt het aan de strat, de elementen heb ik er speciaal anders om afgesteld, maar het ging niet helemaal weg).
De drive is mooi subtiel en veel beter dan ik had verwacht, reageert en klinkt bijna als buizen. Lekker voor een subtiel blues- of Snowy White-achtig randje.
De Swell functie vind ik lachwekkend en zinloos, daar hadden ze ook een one-knob-gate van kunnen maken, want met al die levels ga je die wel nodig hebben, zeker met een strat. Daarom heb ik een Silencer erbij gekocht, maar een gate had misschien nog best in de Platform gepast.

Fantastic compressor. If you want that full modern “audio sausage” where every transient is flattened into a perfectly rectangular block of sound, the Platform can absolutely deliver. Turn a few knobs, push the limiter, and congratulations: your waveform now looks like a well-packed bratwurst.

But the real beauty is that it doesn’t force you to commit crimes against dynamics. Used responsibly, it’s a superb, transparent compressor that gently keeps things under control without squeezing the life out of your signal.

Plenty of control, very musical response, and the limiter is great for catching the occasional enthusiastic peak. In other words: it can produce industrial-grade sausage compression… but it’s equally happy doing civilized dynamic management.
