Although the Finnish company Darkglass was only founded in 2009, it has quickly become a staple in the bass community – thanks in no small part to cutting-edge gear like the Alpha•Omega 900. This high-performance amp head combines the brute force of a solid-state power stage delivering up to 900W at 4 ohms or 2 ohms with the clarity and nuance of a boutique analogue preamp. At its core is the acclaimed Alpha•Omega drive engine, celebrated for its wide range of distortion voicings and its musical responsiveness. A studio-grade VCA compressor, a powerful 6-band graphic EQ, and three onboard impulse response (IR) cabinet simulations uploadable via USB round out the feature set, and the result is a fully equipped rig in a compact head format – equally at home on stage, in the studio, or beyond.

Drive, EQ, and tonal command

At the heart of the Alpha•Omega 900 lies the dual-voice drive engine, which blends two distinct distortion characters – the tight and defined Alpha and the raw, aggressive Omega – with variable mix and level controls. This hybrid design allows for subtle drive, modern grind, or full-blown distortion, all while maintaining low-end clarity. Supporting this is an active 6-band graphic EQ for pinpoint frequency control, complemented by Growl and Bite switches that add optional low-end heft and high-mid presence. A variable-ratio VCA compressor smooths transients and adds warmth without sacrificing articulation. The drive section can be toggled via footswitch or the front panel and sits pre-EQ in the signal path, preserving full tonal control downstream. External pedals and processors can be patched through the FX loop, and the speaker outputs support a wide range of cabinet configurations.

With its dual DI outputs (pre and post processing), the Darkglass Alpha•Omega 900 delivers pro-level routing options for live shows and recording sessions alike. The pre-EQ DI provides a clean signal for re-amping or further processing, while the post-EQ DI includes EQ, compression, distortion, and cab simulation: Ideal for punchy, mix-ready tones direct to FOH or DAW. Whether paired with a full stack or used DI-only, the amp's aggressive voicing and enormous headroom cut through even the densest mixes. A -20dB pad adapts the input for both active and passive basses, while the auxiliary input and headphone output make it a flexible tool for silent rehearsal. Rugged yet lightweight at just 2.4kg, the Darkglass Alpha•Omega 900 packs monster-level tones into a travel-friendly package.

Via USB, users can load and manage up to three impulse response (IR) cabinet emulations, stored directly on the amp and applied to both DI and headphone outputs. This allows custom tones to be used without external gear – whether in direct-to-FOH setups or silent practice. The Darkglass Suite also controls key parameters such as compression behaviour and footswitch assignment. Whether it's optimising IRs for specific venues or refining a recording chain, the Darkglass Suite offers a user-friendly interface to tailor the Alpha•Omega 900 to any workflow – with a broad selection of IRs available for customised tones.

This amp is a beast. It has all the features anyone would need in a live or studio environment. The sound is amazing, from clean to mean distortion. Works great with pedals as well.

a monster among amps

Well, where to start really? I'm a hobby musician who finally decided it was time to pickup a new amp after years of playing a ampeg svt-450h and damn the difference couldn't be more clear!
First of all the build in compressor is a dream come true especially playing a fretless... I honistly never thought i needed one, now i dont think i ever turn it off.
while i cant say anything bad about this amp, it has to be said that the EQ feels a little limiting and could use a couple of extra knobs.
then we come to the absolute showbeast of this amp, the build in alpha and omega pedal it's truly breathtaking and cuts right through the mix!
