Maximum tech, minimum footprint
Simply describing the Audient ASP880 as an eight-channel microphone preamp would be a real understatement. This 19", one-unit rack-mount device is thoroughly up to date and offers considerably more than straightforward signal amplification, including eight high-quality Burr Brown A/D converters. Phantom power can be activated independently for each channel, while a continuously adjustable high-pass filter, three-position impedance matching switch, and send/return path provide further flexibility for signal processing and external effects. Channels one and two also feature a -10dB pad and a JFET DI input, designed to reproduce the character of a tube amplifier's input stage.

Full features plus routing options
All eight channels feature the company’s own Class A console microphone preamps, known for their fast response, tonal neutrality and generous 70dB of gain. The analogue inputs are equipped with XLR-to-jack sockets, while the analogue outputs and return paths, which serve as the ADC inputs, use Sub-D 25 connectors. A dedicated A/D switch on each channel allows the signal to be routed directly to the internal A/D converter or sent through the send/return path to incorporate analogue processors before conversion. The continuously adjustable high-pass filter covers a range of 25-250Hz, making it useful not only for removing low-frequency rumble but also for shaping the lower midrange.

About Audient
The British company Audient has its headquarters in Hampshire and has been developing professional audio equipment since 1997. Setup expansion for a range of new options
The Audient ASP880 is well suited to expanding an existing studio setup. Connected via ADAT, it adds eight further channels to a compatible audio interface, with sampling rates of up to 96kHz supported through SMUX technology. This makes it possible, for example, for users of an iD22 interface to increase the number of available preamp channels to ten, allowing for multitrack drum recordings or different microphone configurations for an acoustic guitar to be captured simultaneously. The combination of the Class A preamps’ tonal neutrality and transparency with the high-quality A/D converters provides a clean and detailed signal path for demanding recording applications.
