Based on the AKG C414

Released in 1971, the AKG C414 has become an indispensable piece of equipment in recording studios and on the world's biggest stages. Conceived as an affordable alternative to the renowned C414, AKG has developed the C214, a 1" large-diaphragm microphone. With a capsule that combines the legendary dual-capsule system of the C414 with AKG's back-plate technology, the C214 convincingly emulates the sonic character of its bigger brother. The microphone's scope of delivery additionally includes an elasticated shock mount, a robust metal case, and a matching wind shield.

High performance

The AKG C214 is a versatile condenser microphone based on the pressure gradient principle, allowing it to capture sound based on the difference in air pressure between two sides of its diaphragm. Its wide dynamic range of 143dB ensures a lifelike representation of transients, and the edge-terminated diaphragm delivers a neutral sound with well-resolved mids and excellent treble presence, so that even the finest nuances of an instrument or voice are captured. Additionally, the switchable low-cut filter (160Hz) together with the integrated capsule suspension effectively reduces mechanical noise in recordings. As a condenser microphone, the C214 requires a phantom power supply via a three-pin XLR connector.

Great sound at an affordable price

The AKG C214 is a professional large-diaphragm condenser microphone that has all bases covered: A bright, clear sound, high-quality materials, and outstanding workmanship. Thanks to its excellent price-performance ratio, the C214 is by no means reserved exclusively for professional studio use, either: Musicians, vocalists, and home studio producers will also find the C214 an excellent microphone that is well suited to both a variety of instruments and a wide range of vocal styles.

About AKG

AKG was founded in Vienna, in 1947, by Dr. Rudolf Goerike and Ernst Pless. After only a few months, the first AKG microphones were already being used for the first time in radio stations and theatres. AKG’s big breakthrough occurred during the early 1950s, due to specific and sophisticated innovations in their field. One example is the first large-diaphragm condenser microphone with remote-controlled, switchable polar pattern (D12) – the first client to acquire them was the BBC in London. AKG is today a world-renowned brand in many different fields. With countless high-class products in its range, such as the well-known C414, the name AKG has always been synonymous of quality and outstanding sound.

Very loud or very quiet?

The AKG C214 will excel in both studio and live applications. The robust metal housing and dual-sided mesh grille help protect the internal electronics and capsule from damage as well as reducing HF interference. Users can therefore deploy the C214 with complete confidence in a variety of acoustic environments. Whether the order of the day is dynamic ensembles, loud guitar amps, or the delicate attack of an acoustic guitar: Thanks to its maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 156dB and wide dynamic range of 143dB, the C214 will handle both loud and quiet signals equally well.

Degelijke mic met veel tophoog
Pioel 09.12.2020

Great Mic for its Price!
Eray Polat 23.04.2018
I use this mic in my studio to track vocals and electric guitar amp mostly. AKG C214 is very similar to C414; at the first look the difference is polar pattern selector. C214 does not have this feature. You can only use Cardiod pattern. But, it's not a big deal if you're using it in a small studio or your home studio works. Cause if you don't have a very well acoustically designed room, Cardiod should be enough. Another difference from C414 is that C214 has about 1 db more mid range response. That makes it more usable for electric guitar amp recordings. I've been recorded vocals with lots of different mics, this C214 does very good job with vocals. Really satisfying. If you want to buy C414 but it's too expensive for you, get this C214 for a lower price. The performance is almost the same! There is one point that i don't like about this mic is the high-ends. They should be controlled very well prior to recordings. This mic may get too bright, of course it depends what you record, but keep that in mind. To sum up, i love C214 and there is no need to pay lots of more money for little technical differences!

An incredible, versatile studio microphone
mynamejeff 25.03.2021
It's not everyday that your grandmother randomly gifts you money, but when that happens, you obviously go to Thomann and buy yourself some musical gear you've been dreaming about.
I had been using an AKG Perception 100 (an entry-level condenser mic, currently discontinued) for years and wanted to upgrade. I was deciding between the C214 and the Shure SM7B, went for the C214 because it was more affordable and also seemed to better fit my needs according to the reviews.
It sounds, looks and is built like a much more expensive mic. The case also adds to the premium feel of the product. I love the shockmount and use it a lot when recording. I have yet to use the windshield so I can't comment on that. I use the mic for voice-overs, vocals and acoustic guitar, the sound is clear and detailed. I have now been using this mic for about four years and I highly recommend it.
