Patented technology for crystal-clear sound

Each ear cup of the ADAM Audio H200 houses a 40mm PEEK performance driver, chosen for its low weight and optimum rigidity, offering a smooth and balanced 2Hz–23.5kHz frequency response with minimal distortion. These drivers, paired with a high-quality neodymium magnet system, deliver crystal-clear sound reproduction. This combination of materials in conjunction with ADAM Audio's patented Airflow technology ensures a distinctly controlled low-end response with outstanding accuracy. With a maximum sound pressure level of 112.5dB, the H200 provides powerful yet detailed audio performance. The 3m detachable cable offers ample freedom of movement in the studio to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted workflow, and the cable can be connected to either side of the headphones, while a nominal impedance of 32 ohms ensures broad compatibility with a wide range of audio sources.

About ADAM Audio

ADAM Audio was founded in Berlin in March 1999 and has since been involved in the development, manufacture, and distribution of speakers specifically aimed at the professional audio industry. The company was founded following the development of the X-ART tweeter, itself based on the Air Motion Transformer created by Oscar Heil in the 1960s. Advanced Dynamic Audio Monitors (ADAM) has rapidly set new standards in the world of studio monitors. The company employs over 50 people in its Berlin factory, is distributed in over 75 countries, and has sales offices in both the USA (Nashville) and the UK. The list of renowned studios using ADAM monitors is long and still growing. ADAM Audio has been part of the Focusrite Group since 2019.

Customisable sound via plugin

ADAM Audio H200 users can enhance their listening experience with a Sonnox plugin that is designed specifically for these headphones and uses crossfeed algorithms to allow mixes originally created on studio monitors to be transferred seamlessly to headphones, thereby preserving spatial characteristics and depth. This is particularly useful for mixing applications when listeners are likely to misjudge left-right pans after prolonged loudspeaker use. The H200 ships with faux leather earpads, with a soft cloth option available as a separate accessory. As these materials have different acoustic properties, the Headphone Utility features two EQ curves to ensure consistent and unaltered reproduction. The frequency response can be adjusted to one of the different voicings: The Pure setting delivers an accurate and neutral sound profile, making it ideal for precise mixing. In contrast, the UNR (Uniform Natural Response) mode emulates the familiar ADAM Audio studio monitor sound, providing a more natural listening experience and reducing ear fatigue during extended sessions. Additionally, the Gain Compensation feature maintains a consistent perceived output level, regardless of EQ settings. The Equal Loudness function further ensures that the overall output level remains stable, preserving a well-balanced listening experience.

I’ve been using the ADAM Audio D3V monitors for a while now, and honestly they completely changed my expectations for compact studio gear. The sound quality, detail retrieval, stereo image, low-end clarity — everything feels readable and controlled. The bass is pleasant without becoming muddy, kicks have a satisfying punch, and overall they’re simply enjoyable both for mixing and casual music listening.

Because of that experience, I started looking for a pair of monitoring headphones that could work not only for mixing/mastering, but also for actually enjoying music. My main choices were the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro X and the ADAM Audio H200. After reading dozens of reviews, Reddit threads, and comparisons about the DT 770/990/900/700 series, I was almost ready to buy them. Then I suddenly came across the H200 from a brand I already trusted. There were barely any reviews on the official website, and even online there wasn’t much clear information about what kind of product these headphones really were. Still, I decided to take the risk.

Eventually the delivery day came.

The first thing I noticed after putting them on was the isolation. They block outside noise surprisingly well, yet they don’t clamp too hard on the ears or head. Some reviews considered the comfort slightly questionable, but for me they felt completely fine even during long sessions.

When I played the first random track on Spotify, I was actually a little disappointed because the bass quantity wasn’t what I initially expected. But after spending an entire day listening to music and mixing in them, my opinion changed completely.

These are probably the best headphones I’ve ever used for mixing.

The level of detail is excellent, the low-end is extremely understandable, the highs are smooth instead of sharp or fatiguing, and the bass doesn’t sound like a blurry rumble — it sounds like the actual bass information that’s present in the mix. Kicks feel punchy and controlled. Most importantly, even after a full day of use, I had absolutely no listening fatigue.

So if you’re genuinely looking for headphones for mixing, mastering, and simply enjoying music with great detail and clarity, the ADAM Audio H200 can be an excellent choice.

A few words about the plugin that comes with the headphones: it genuinely transforms the sound. There’s even a feature that brings the bass response much closer to what I originally expected from these headphones. On top of that, the monitor emulation modes — especially the ones based on ADAM Audio’s larger studio monitors — are incredibly enjoyable and surprisingly convincing. They actually get very close to the overall sound character I hear from my own D3V monitors.

Excelente auriculares
Fede Satyam 23.01.2025
