Push 3 transformation kit

The Ableton Push 3 Upgrade Kit converts the Push 3 controller into the Push 3 Standalone, a fully autonomous Live workstation that eliminates the need for an external computer. At its heart is the Intel NUC Compute Element, the first Intel processor adapted specifically for the Push series, combining CPU, 8GB of RAM and Wi-Fi in a single module. The kit also provides a 256GB SSD for local storage and a lithium iron phosphate battery for mobile power. Once installed, the Upgrade Kit unlocks Push’s integrated audio/MIDI interface with balanced analogue I/O, ADAT expansion, MIDI in/out and extended CV outputs. The result is identical in capability to a factory-built Push 3 Standalone, unifying composition, performance and production in a self-contained instrument.

What’s inside

The Ableton Push 3 Upgrade Kit contains all components and tools required for the conversion from controller to full-blown workstation: The Intel NUC Compute Element, 256GB SSD, battery and heatsink, together with screws, a screwdriver, backplate lifter and protective mat. Designed for safe, straightforward installation, the kit requires no specialist tools or expertise. The Compute Element combines processor, memory and Wi-Fi connectivity in a compact, modular card that slots directly into the Push 3’s chassis. The included 256GB SSD provides local storage, and the lithium iron phosphate battery delivers up to two hours of autonomy.

Step-by-step installation

Upgrading the Ableton Push 3 is straightforward and requires no prior experience with electronics. The process typically takes no more than 30 minutes, with each stage meticulously covered in Ableton’s step-by-step video tutorials. All the necessary tools are supplied, supporting the full procedure, from lifting the backplate to securing the processor and seating the Wi-Fi antennas. Thanks to the modular design of the Compute Element and SSD, the components slot neatly into place, which in turn activates the onboard audio/MIDI interface and Wi-Fi.

About Ableton

Ableton was founded in 1999 in Berlin, by former Native Instruments employees Gerhard Behles and Bernd Roggendorf. Ableton AG now employs around 350 people worldwide and has since expanded to Los Angeles and Tokyo. Ableton is famous for “Live”, their flagship software DAW/sequencer. Live is a market-leading application in the field of music production. Live is performance-oriented, allows real-time processing of samples and synthesizers, instrument-like flexibility for improvisation on stage and also provides renowned music production tools. Ableton is famous and used worldwide for its creative possibilities, in the both sound design and music production.

From controller to workstation

Once installed, the Ableton Push 3 Upgrade Kit transforms the Push 3 into the fully-fledged Push 3 Standalone, identical in capability to the factory-built model. The onboard processing power can handle demanding sessions autonomously—sustaining over 20 tracks of Ableton’s Analogue synth before reaching its limit, while Freeze and Flatten functions remain available to manage heavier projects. The audio/MIDI interface, ADAT expansion, CV outputs and Wi-Fi are all enabled, allowing the Push 3 to serve as a studio hub. The result is a focused hardware workflow, unifying composition, performance and sound design in a single portable system, offering a direct path from controller to standalone instrument.
